I agree with Scott. This is about apples and oranges.
But, learning (classical) piano in the early age will provide you with lots of foundation for latter use. I did it for six years...difference between me and Scott, he continually studied and became an accomplished pro, I stopped and now only play in my own home..One thing to remember though, it's good to learn various chords and listen to different music while you practice also. I know some people, who can play (classical)piano like crazy, but struggle when playing non-classical music.
