I'd recommend those Yamaha mixers with the compressor on a few mike channels. When you are using an arranger, and even more when it is a Yamaha, with a very compressed dynamic already, it helps to put a bit of squeeze on any sung stuff or other instruments playing with you.
It helps bring it all together, rather than allowing something frisky to sit on top, at times...
