Lee,
I try to set up my OTS in a familiar pattern, since I also only use one basic registration bank. Generally, my OTS is usually set up with OTS-1 being some sort of piano/electric sound, OTS-2 will have some type of Guitar sound, the OTS-3 will have some kind of a wind instrument sound (Trumpet, Sax, Flute) and OTS-4 will have an ensemble type sound, such as Strings or Brass or a combo of both.
Also, these OTS sounds will be ones not in my Registration bank of 8 sounds, the first four of which are in a similar pattern to the above.
Some special styles, mainly FreePlay styles, and, especially Synthesizer related freeplay styles, will usually vary from the above norm, but still loosely adhere to the same idea with OTS1/2 being percussive (piano-like) or plucked sounds, and OTS3/4 being of the sustaining kind.
For me, it's always been about setting things up in related (and familiar) patterns, even as I traded up from instrument to instrument, no matter what the brand, as it prevents unwarranted surprises when performing.
