Well, I am talking about real time while I'm playing.
I want to analyze how the arranger is transposing a basic pattern based on the chords I'm playing in real time. When I press a key or keys in the chord recognition area, I want to see exactly what notes are triggered and coming out of a particular track. Usually I would look at one track at a time, but in some cases I might want to see the chord or pad channel overlaid with the bass.
In the past I've done this by recording a long progression of the most common chords (in several keys!) Playing all of the chords in the progression while recording to a MIDI sequencer. Then going back through the sequence in microscope edit to see exactly how the arranger transposed the pattern for each chord. That's about as fun as it sounds :-(
It would be easier, and a better teaching tool, if I could see which notes are coming out in real time. The best case would be if it flashed the notes up on a staff, but even a text display would be better than reviewing a recorded sequence after the fact. There HAS to be a real-time MIDI analyzer app that does this, for Windows or iPad.
