Tony,

Visit this site:
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~viper01/karaoke.htm

Click on the EXTRAS and MIDI links.
You can download 1440 free MIDI files and over 2000 KAR files.
The site owner has compiled them under one big zip file.

If you are looking for a specific MIDI do a search on

http://www.musicrobot.com/

Good luck,

Tapas

Am I correct in assuming in order for karaoke file lyrics to be displayed on a Yamaha Keyboard, that they first have to be converted to a type 0 midi file (with lyrics)

If so, I'm looking for a quick and easy way to do this. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Larry

Larry,

Yes, you are correct!

You would need to download this conversion program:

http://www.josefiak.com/projects/KarCrusher/

Here is the author’ description –

KarCrusher 3.2

KarCrusher 3.2 is Java application for converting MIDI Karaoke Type 1 files (.KAR) to MIDI Karaoke Type 0 files (.MID). The program was designed primarily for use with the karaoke feature of the Yamaha Clavinova CVP-96. On this instrument, lyrics will only display for Type 0 MIDI karaoke files such as those distributed by Tune1000 (now renamed eatsleepmusic.com). Type 0 files are not readily available for free, but Type 1 (.KAR) files are relatively abundant on the Net. See, for example, www.midikaraoke.com.

The concept of this program is simple. Merge all the Type 1 tracks into a single track for Type 0, delete redundant lyric information if it is present, and convert all the lyrics from MIDI text events to MIDI lyric events.

Hope this helps,

Tapas

Tapas,

Thanks for the KarCrusher link.

I've downloaded the zip file, but not sure how to run this tool with Java,as there is no .exe involved.

It looks promising..if I can figure out how to get it started.

Thanks
Larry
