How does everyone use their multi-pads? Until recently I just played with the presets and never really used them for anything.. Over the weekend, I realized that I can use them to lay down 4 tracks (without having to use the disk drive for recording). I've been using the 4 pads to record some backing jams. I still use the drum machine, but it actually works rather nicely this way. I just wish the pads could be set to "repeat" or "loop" like the presets are. It would make it easier, but I still have made some pretty decent backing jams. Also it would be nice if the memory was a little bigger too... Does the PSR-1000 allow multi pad repeat for user pads?

I've just started using them with my band to trigger little sound effects and riffs live. what's cool it that you can tap the tempo of the song before and let it fly. I've found it very usefull for filling in parts with horn stabs etc......I'm using a PSR1000 and a PSR550. for the band I've been usinf the 550 for this.....

mdolmon,
How are the pads on the PSR-1000??? You're lucky to have both the 1000 and 550.. I want to get rid of the my 550 so I can get the 1000. How long can a phrase be on the 1000 when you repeat a pad? Also since you have both the 1000 and the 550 can you tell us your opinion on the sound quality between the two? Do they sound pretty much the same with the exception of better speakers on the PSR-1000?

Thanks

The Multi pads are a bit more solid under your finger, almost all of the controls feel better and firmer (in my opinion) as far as Multi pad notes are concerned I believe that it's based on maximum number of notes for all of the multi pads combined, much like a sequencer. I could be wrong I've never really looked into it because my use is fairly limited to a couple of things. I'll look further. If you have a 550 I have a midi file I can send you of a song I'm just finishing that features the sweet flute. let me know if you'd like it and if you want add to it or modify it, let's see what we can come up with.

You CAN set the pads to loop.

mdolmon,
I'd love to hear that midi file.. Feel free to send it.. squeakybeats25@hotmail.com I'll check it out and see if I can add anything.. I've always like listening to other peoples music and adding a part and sending it back.. Fun way to interact...

Multipads are a PSR feature and can trigger single shot or looping phrases in time with the current tempo. They can be started or stopped at anytime and layered (ie. you have four different multipad presets available plus you can change to another set while the current set is playing). They can play in key with the rest of the accompaniment except in the case non pitched sounds such as percussion or FX.

Nigel thanks for the explanation

WOWWWW...this is really cooooollllll....

Can you program your own loops/patterns/styles into those pads?

I might after all end up getting the PSR1000 Oriental if it has that feature!

DonM: what's the secret then? I searched through the manual but could find nothing on how to make the pads loop. Mind you, there are lots of wrong info and omissions in the PSR740 manual. I had to download the PSR2k manual to find out how my 740 works.
