Could someone advise me, what is the best PA system (for 300 to 500 people - 6 piece band) I could purchase for around USD 3000.

Thanks for your inputs.

I love the EV SX300's as tops and almost ANY powered sub will fill it out nicely.
(Also the UNpowered Mackies are a good choice - the powered ones overheat too often for my taste)The EV's will give you 300 clean continuous watts each, and the sub's are usually 600 watts or more. The Mackie sub has built in crossovers, so all you need is an amp for the tops. Do you need a complete package - mixer, effects, mics and all?

Uncle Dave: I still like the EV SxA100's you recommended to me a few months ago. What's difference between the EV Sx300 and the SxA100? Are the EV Sx300's better? - Scott

Scott,
Shiju was asking for a 5 piece band, and the SX300's handle more power and have a wider dispersion horn. They are NON powered and require an amp - something we single performers hate to carry, if not absolutely necessary.
For you and me - the sx100a is better, but in a band situation, I'd rather have the extra oooomph of the 300's.

My favorite (I own one of these) is the german system L.U.C.A.S from Hughes & Kettner. The system is composed by one Subwoofer (300 W) + two tops (150 W each), a total of 600 Watt. If more power is needed, the L.U.C.A.S 1000 is a good alternative. It has lots of power, yet clear, rich, well balanced sound.

You can find further details in: http://www.hkaudio.com/as/lucas/index.htm and http://www.hkaudio.com/as/lucas_1000/index.htm

Best regards,

José P. Matias.

One more clarification ?

Have you suggested powered speakers or I have to buy a power amplifier separately ?

Shiju,
The LUCAS system has all the eletronics (amplifier, crossovers)inside the subwoofer box. The system is suposed to be portable, but it weights about 60 Kg (+- 120 pounds) - has 4 wheels.
I really prefer these integrated compact systems as normally I play (and carry all the stuff) alone, but there are surely good less compact solutions (unpowered speakers + power amplifier), just like Dave suggested.
