At the party I played last Saturday, yeah, my keyboard went goofy on me but that's another thread.

I used the Logitech z2200 sound system. I was at a home, under a carport, so, there was a roof. The wall of the home ten feet in front of me. Fifteen feet behind me, the adjacent home. To my left and to my right, open air. People sitting in chairs all around.

I tell ya... I don't know what it was but my sound with this little bitty z2200 was unbelievably good. The only thing I have changed recently is that at the previous night's bar gig, a musician told me I needed more vocal volume. I didn't agree but I did it anyway, haha. Bumped it up slightly. Not much difference at all.

But at this outside gig... whatever it was... if I could bottle this sound, I would be very happy. The vocals were just incredibly warm and rich and clear. It was just awesome. I got tons of compliments, booked two more jobs. I just couldn't believe how good it sounded.

As always, acoustic guitar was plugged in with my Audix OM5 mic (via a Y-thingy) into my Yamaha psr2000. Keyboard into the Logitech z2200. No mixer, used onboard effects, same as I have done many times. (Usually do not use a mixer.)

Any clue why this might be? No, I was not drinking.

EDIT: Do you think the wall ten feet in front of me is responsible?

Bill maybe you created a natural reverb chamber..Or maybe someone in the house was playing the radio

You never know what to expect with those breezeway jobs

Bill, after thinking about it, I'll bet that because of the sound being reflected by the wall, you were actually hearing yourself better, and that's the way you sound all the time.

I've used the Z-5500 system outdoors several times, and in some instances there were no buildings or structures to reflect the sound, which in every case was awesome. I think the wildest comment I get when using this system is "Where are your speakers?" When I point to the satellites they usually say "No, where are your big speakers?" Gotta' love it!

Cheers,

Gary

Bill,

I think Don is right as usual. It must be boring for Don to always be right. It sounds like you were playing in a natural megaphone. The walls could easily do that.

I remember many years ago when I was repairing organs, I was called to a Church about 40 miles north of here. They had an old Wurlitizer reed organ in this big old country Catholic Church. Normally these reed organs were dispicable sounding but in that Church with the hard walls and high ceilings it sounded like a million bucks.

I think you experienced a similar situation. The carport roof, the home wall, and the adjacent home wall created a megaphone for you. I glad you had fun.
