A number of forum readers have encouraged me, perhaps only half jokingly, to get a 9000 so I could put up a PSR 9000 tutorial. I resisted since I was perfectly happy with my PSR-2000. But now the Tyros is hitting the market. How about a Tyros Tutorial site? Well, in this I am happy to oblige. In fact, I've completed one already. It's called the PSR-2000 Tutorial+ site (
http://pages.prodigy.net/watersj/Yamaha2K ). I've just finished perusing sections of the Tyros manual and, except for a bit of the graphics on screen shots, many of these functions are identical to the PSR-2000.
If you want to learn about the file system -- it is identical (except that instead of just PRESET, USER, and FLOPPY DISK, the Tyros will have an optional HD area where files can be stored. Note: the Tyros will also let you list files by numbers instead of just the names that one sees in the 2000 display.) Do you want to know how the OTS settings work -- the same as the 2000. Do you want to know how the Registration memory buttons work -- the same as the 2000. Do you want to know how the Mixing Console works -- the same as the 2000. Do you want to know how the Music Finder works -- the same as the 2000, in fact, the record limit for the Tyros is 2,500 (just like the PSR-2000). The Tyros manual does seem to have some better explanation of some features than the PSR-2000 manual, perhaps I can derive some more "lessons" from there. In other areas, however, just like the 2000 manual, it lacks in-depth explanations.
I don't have a Tyros and probably will hold off another year before upgrading. But, I think, if I were to merely change some of the screen shots, and add a bit here and there where the Tyros has additional features (like the HD), the PSR-2000 Tutorial site would, in fact, easily become a Tyros Tutorial site.
