I would say that this amp is priced right .

Particularily if it's in good shape !

Youmay want to search for a used roland kc100 or 300 .

Hey Zack,
I have a pair of KB100 Peaveys. They are pretty good amps with black spider speakers in them. New they were 349.00 each so half price would be 175.00 in good condition. Be sure all pots are working ok and 4 band eq also. The spring reverb is worthless. They are a little bassey if you put them against the wall or in a corner. They are really heavy and only one handle in the middle of the top. Dumb!

Bebop,
That amp came with standard speakers or the upgraded Scorpions, not Black Widows. Are you SURE you have BW's? You can tell by just looking at the ring on the speaker. The BW's have a round ring and the Scorpions have a squared off edge.(silver)
The amp in that combo was not made to handle a BW, the Scorpion is a much better match of speaker to power.

With regard to price - $135 is a great deal. They are a bit clumsy to transport, but not too too terrible to lug around. for that price .... it's worth it. They PV has much better bass response than the smaller Roland kc amps. The only one of that bunch that I liked was the kc500. It too, was a monster to carry, though. IMO, the smaller units (kc100,300)were more than a few steps DOWN in sound quality. Too boxy, and mid heavy .... open back was no good either.

If you don't have to carry it around too much, that KB100 is a good choice for that price.

I agree that $135 is a good deal, but consider this, especially if you're interested in gigging.

The Peavy KB100 was my first KB amp. Because of limited funds, it was all I could afford when I first started out solo gigging way back when. To be honest, I was never happy or satisfied with its sound quality (hollow & un natural), and it was really bulky to lug around to boot. I was so happy when I could afford dump it and trade up to the Roland KC300's. What a vast improvement in sound. From there I moved up to the EV SxA100's, which resulted in another ten fold sound improvement.

If I had the opportunity (and wisdom) to do this all over again, and the EV SxA100's were available back then, I would have gone straight to the EV SxA100, even though I would have had to charge up my credit card to the MAX. Why?

Because I've learned (thru the years) that second only to your performance, that your sound QUALITY will make or break you in landing, keeping, and booking subsequent gigs, and directly affects your gig earning potential as well. Think of that extra $ you spend as an initial investment that will turn around and pay itself off in higher paying gigs, quickly paying off your investment and reaping profits sooner as well. Just my opinion. - Scott

Scott ... maybe problem was that kn5000 you were using!(kidding )

While the KB100 is not the greatest sounding amp, it sure is a dependable, workhorse that sounds GOOD anyway. There will always be a better deal down the road, but that amp has enough bass to work as a sub in small to medium situations ! It's probably the piezo tweeter that some people dislike. They tend to be a little scratchy and directional.

As an investment ..... you will probably be able to sell that amp for $150 whenever you tire of it. Good luck!

PEE VEE...P..U...$75 is my top price....seriously..The KB 100 is loud, good bass response, but[there's that but],I found the mids and highs to brittle/harsh..That is one of the reasons if I buy PV , it doesn't stay too long..All around, I still prefer my "older" Roland 100 keyboard amps[ especially since I have added the Mackie CFX mixer]...Of the Roland newer line,I only liked the KC500[it compares more to my old 100's], but lacks the 3 way sound system that the "Oldies" have...

Actually the Peavy KB100 went back a lot further then the 5000 . . . . I believe I was playing a Korg T3, followed by a 01W FD back then (circ late 80's)

hey all. thanks for your replies! i got the amp the day after i posted because the guy was about to sell it someone else if i didn't jump for it. all in all, i'm pretty happy. it's old though. i called peavey with the serial number and they said it's from 1985! but other than a few scratches, it's in great condition and i am very happy with the sound. i just did a gig with it last night, and except for once when some little twit pulled out the power cord by mistake, it was a smashing hit. or at least nobody said otherwise. :-) thanks for your replies, once again! rock on! Zack

I just have a soft spot in my heart for Peavey gear. I managed a store when I was in High Scool and we were on of Hartley's first major accounts in the Philly area. I watched that company grow from home made amps that were assembled in his basement to becomming the largest enterprise in Mississipi ... ahead of BOEING! It's a great product at a great price, and while it may not be the absolute top of the heap ..... it sure is reliable gear that I would play ANYwhere.
They also make some terrific guitars and basses. Good luck with your new amp !
