...are there a lot more Arranger Keyboard players in Europe than here? If one simply does a search for most any arranger keyboard model on the net, the number of European dealer pages, not to mention info/review pages, easily outnumbers the US pages two to one. From that alone I am influenced to conclude that there are a lot more European players who use A/KBs (at least professionally), as opposed to Americans who like to have a group/trio/etc. up on stage.

Usually the only time I see Americans up on stage alone is during a Karaoke performance!

Is this is cultural thing? Is this even true? Or am I up a creek without a paddle?

Hey MR Bulk!

Well, here in England, you don't have to go too far to find Keyboard/Arranger Players (in the local Pub etc - very common)....or a Keyboard shop at all - and not just arrangers, but Synths as well. There is a Shop that sells the Yamaha 9000, KN6500,VA5/7 PA80, PSR740, and 1000/2000 (he will have them in now I think).... 300 Metres from my house!!

Suppose I think this dealers prices are too high (which they are a little), I only have to go 8 Miles to Derby - and there are about 3 or four shops (on my last visit), that do Arrangers and Synths in the same shop. Of course, if I don't like Derby food - I can always grab a Taxi and go to Nottingham - which is 4 miles from derby, and find even more shops with Arrangers and Synths (as well as Guitars/Drums/Samplers/Mixers/Mic's Hi tech etc. If I don't like Nottingham food, you can always.......(you get the drift!)

It seems almost impossible to miss a city - or town that DOESN’T have a Keyboard in it! Here is a list of shops in UK that sell Technics Arrangers alone - and that is not counting Roland/Korg/Yamaha etc - but some of these shops will sell them as well

Technics Dealers well over a Hundred

If you scroll down the list, you will see the name of that shop which is 300 metres from me (Ripley, Fowlers music). And there are a lot more were they came from.

We have a Keyboardist every week at the local, but every 8-12 weeks, we have a man called "Fuzzy fingers" playing at the Local Pub. He is a specialist player, and uses loads of tackle. He Uses foot pedals for his bass - rather than the onboard patterns (they sound super). The keyboards/Sound modules he uses seem to change everytime I see him!. A Technics KN6000, Korg Triton ProX (88 key - which he plays the KN6000 Piano through), and a Roland VA76 complete his keyboard set-up (mounted on a 3 tier Stand), with a XV3080 underneath somewhere - I saw one - I did! Not to mention Mixers (it was a Yamaha AW44HD I believe) and Amps, etc. Must be £20,000 worth. Now I know why they can only afford to have him not so frequently.

To your question about "are there a lot more Arranger Keyboard players in Europe than here" - well, the fact that there are so many shops with arrangers & Synths etc, means there will be more people buying them - because there is more access to the keyboards/shops themselves...and you don't have to drive 1000's of miles to see one!!!

Tony, England

No Question ! Many more arranger type players in Europe .
In my opinion it's the accordion that got it all started . Many more accordion players from Europe vs. USA .The Italian Accordion makers where the 1st to influence arranger type keyboards i believe. Starting with Orla , Farfisa etc..... ( I could be wrong on this ) . There was a thread started about subject a while back ..... dano

Several years ago, a product manager from Yamaha gave me an amazing statistic. "In Europe, more AC adapters are sold as accessories then all the arranger keyboards in the USA"
Amazing!

Hey Tony, dano, and George,

Guess my hunch was correct. If there was a way to get more musicians in the U.S. into arranger kb's, sales would be stupendous.

So I guess on-stage image counts for a lot in our culture? Hmmmm...then start a new trend -- one real musician with Arr/KB and the rest are paid minimum wage to stand up there with guitars & drum sets in front of'em? Might work...!
