I was trained to memorize as a kid.....it makes for a much better presentation and stage presence performance when you can look in to the audiences eyes and relate as you sing & play....instead of your head looking down being stuck in a music sheet all night..I've said this many times before & it might sound weird......practice playing & singing BLINDFOLDED until its second nature....this will help you develope a strong playing, singing &
Tri-dexterity entertainment skill....you should be able to communicate, talk, take requests, give out cards all
WHILE YOUR PLAYING....yes friends its magic

Everything from memory for me. I sometimes write a lead line or changes on a temporary card when I do a tune for the first time. I go over it once or twice, and then use the card the first time I do it on the job. I need to stop using the card ASAP, though, because if it's there, I be still using it long after it's turned dog-eared and yellow.

I found a solution for the problem I'm having - which, while far less elegant than Phil Hall's solution, works fine for me.

I got some heavy duty velcro. I adhered one piece to the Yamaha logo in front of the music rest. I adhered another piece of velcro to the middle of the music rest (where the sheet music rests on). Then I take another longer piece of velcro and I fasten it to the piece above the logo and the piece on the music rest. With this second piece of velcro, I do not take off the plastic that covers the sticky part.

I know that a picture is worth a thousand words, and I will take a picture as soon as I can.
