Yup - the PA80 is an embryo compared to ALL other harmonizers. It is in NO way ready for production in keyboard marketed as a PROFESSIONAL instrument. The tones are good, but the control is non-existant.

Dave, you really disappoint me. Why do you do this to me? Here I thought I was the top one for being on the bottom. At one time you made me number one bottom guy with my harmonizer and now you want to take that honor away from me and claim it for yourself. I don’t think that is being very kind to an old man. You made all the letters capital in the word ALL. According to what I have read here on the forum, when you do that it is like yelling at a person. I feel humiliated in front of all these nice folks. You say the PA80 is an embryo compared to “ALL” other harmonizers. Does that mean my harmonizer has lost it’s number one position for being last? Dave, I have lost that nice warm fuzzy feeling of owning the #1 position of being on the bottom. I really thought you were a pretty nice guy at one time.

I can only comment on the PA80 vocalizer vs the 2000. I disagree here. My 2k harmonizer has several more options available, but I don't rate the sound quality anywhere as good as my PA80's harmonizer. I also like that I can control the number of voices in real time on the PA80 via the amount of keys I press when making a chord with my left hand. I don't think the 2k has this, but I never delved too far as I realized quickly that its harmonizer just didn't sound as good ( at least with my voice it didn't ).
Maybe the 2100 has a better harmonizer. I didn't give that a test when I played one.

Doug, I am sure your keyboard is just as lousy as the PA 80, harmonizer...wise...AJ, I think the PSR 2100 vocalizer is better then the PA80, it seems to be more flexible and has more control parameters. I don't know how different the 2000 is to the 2100, I know there are some improvements..

Hey guys and gals,
I've used both the 2000 and 2100 and there is some difference. The 2100 vocalizer sound a bit fuller and more natural. The only time I used the PA-80 it sounded lousy. I don't believe that all the adjustments in the world could have improved the vocal quality.
Cheers,
Gary

PSR-S950, TC Helicon Harmony-M, Digitech VR, Samson Q7, Sennheiser E855, Custom Console, and lots of other silly stuff!
Having owned an i40m which i assume from comments above had a similar VH unit to the PA80 I have to say that the sound that came out of the unit was quite acceptable...quite good in fact. It is however very true that there were only two sttings on the VH ....on and off!
I now own the 9000pro and the harmoniser (again I assume it is the same unit in the 2001), is just as good as the i40m with infinately more settings to play with. Page after page of presets from one extra voice to four part harmony and endless scope to make your own settings as well.
Doug, I think the VH unit on your board (and to be fair I have never tested it on a 7000) will retain it's title for a while yet BUT (sorry for the shout there!) a good friend of mine and an avid technics fan said that he heard that Technics were in discussions with Digitech over the possibility of joining forces for the next board much like korg have with tc helicon on the PA X. Might be an interesting development!
No comparison, the PSR is much better, and has more options. DonM
Don, I see your still a Yamaha User, I thought the 2000 was your last one. No what I wanted to ask you was, does the vocal harmony please you more on the 2100? How much more flash memory does the 2100 have? I still have my 2000! It's been good for me. Nobby

You crack me up, Douggie. The kn still is the worst SOUNDING harmonizer, but the Korg has virtually no user control, except for that vocoder-like treatment of how many voices...which makes it almosy unbearable for me. I trigger the harmonies with my chord hand - how can I adjust the harmonies and still get full sounding chords? Hmmm.
The PSR have a few major hangups in control, but at least, it sounds good and gives you choices. Too bad you can't sustain it with the rhythm OFF, or play it in chordal mode from the right hand. It'd be much more friendly for me.
