Yesterday, I uploaded a new master mfd with 2,100 records. ( http://pages.prodigy.net/watersj/Yamaha2K/Beginners/B_MusicFinder/MF_Bonus/mf_bonus.html )
If that URL is too long, just go to http://devoted.to/PSR2K and then select Beginners | Music Finder | Bonus.

Since PSR-1000 owners can only load 1,000 records, I've also provided a separate zip file that breaks the master mfd file into 6 smaller components and updated about 50 individual fake book-specific MFDs.

This MFD will work perfectly well on the Tyros as well as the CVP209/207/205. For owners of older PSRs, I have also provided a Microsoft Word document that gives a 23-page printout of the information (song/style/tempo) stored in the master MFD.

By the way, the "lessons" on using the Music Finder now have screen shots from the Tyros as well as the PSR-2000. As I get the time, I will add Tyros illustrations to other lessons as well.

HI JOE,
I just visited your website and read all your info there. Great work that you do.
I am wondering if this is also applicable to the new psr9000 I recently purchased. I am currently developing a learning curve for this instrument as my last 5 were Technics. Looking forward to your reply

Hi Joe. KUDOS as usual for your never ending support to our PSR2000 keyboard community with your continously updated PSR2000 site.

I suspect your PSR2000 'MusicFinder' file:
http://pages.prodigy.net/watersj/Yamaha2K/JW_MF1011.ZIP

may not be recognized by Tyros unless the Header string is first changed from'PSR2000' to 'Tyros'. This can be achieved by using a Hex Editor program, or possibly via Fabien's 'MusicFinder Editor' program:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/fjm/english/psr2000.htm

I'm now hoping Fabien might update his excellent software utility to support the 'new' Tyros. Fabien, are you listening?

Scott, I've sent a note to both Fabien and Michael hoping that they can expand their programs (Music Finder Editor and MusicFinderView respectively) to handle conversion between the PSR2000/1000 and Tyros. Right now those programs handle conversions between the PSR2K and the CVP209/207/205 series.

Bebop, I was pleasantly surprised when I downloaded the Tyros (and then the CVP209) manuals to see how similar their systems were to the 2000. I'm afraid the 9000 is not the same. Although many of the "principles" may be similar, how they are implemented on the 9000 is different than on the 2000. Of course, the "Fake Book" section is machine independent and the "PSR Performer" files can be played on the 9000 as well as other PSRs. The style files can be used on many PSRs, but the OTS in those files won't work on the 9000. The lessons on uploading and downloading as well as on "Zipping" files, also apply to everyone.

Thanks Joe for all your hard work and devotion. Your site is probably the most well layed out and informative one on the net for the PSR 1000/2000. And your styles are some of the best around. PS: I installed the new database no problem.

Best regards,

Mike

Joe,
Thanks for the upload. I find myself playing for hours out of the Ultimate Fake Books (Vol 1+2). I have been writing the settings on the pages but this is much easier. The next chance I get I will back up the settings I have and move the new one in and see how it compares with my settings.
Thanks again for all the wonderful work you have done in supporting the PSR2000.

Thank you Brian & Mike. I, too, find the fake book listing in the Music Finder a very convenient means of going from song to song. However, a word of warning to players who have not had much experience with mfd files. If you have made changes to your Music Finder data, be sure to make a COPY of that file to a floppy disk so you do not lose any of the editing you have already done. Loading a new file with REPLACE will, indeed replace that file, so be sure you have a backup. One other note for CVP owners -- to use these files in a CVP, you will have to run them through one of the utilities to convert the PSR MFD to a CVP MFD (each keyboard has different style numbers -- and a different header record). I'm doing some testing now, but I believe I will have to put a "CVP" format file up on the site as well as the PSR format files. When the Tyros conversion software is ready, I'll put up a separate "TYROS" format MFD.

(Of course, this may depend on whether I get my #@#$%$ computer working right again. Suddenly, today, it refuses to get out of 16-color 640x480 mode. I don't have a clue what the problem is. All other aspects seem to be working OK. I think it will be easier to simply get a new computer then it will be to spend days trying to hunt down this problem or be without a computer for weeks while it is sitting in some repair shop. It's time for an upgrade any way!)

Ha! My kind of thinking, Joe! I love that attitude. And again, many thanks for your excellent website.

Hi Scott and everybody here.

I can have a look on it but I need the style table of the Tyros (style names and numbers) and a sample MFD file from the Tyros. Is that allready available somewhere?

Fabien

Please check your email I've attached both a Tyros MFD file and list of Tyros style names (Tyros data list). I would expect (if it's like on the PSR2000 data list manual) that the style numbers are listed 'sequentially' beginning with 0.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Scott
