I just reviewed & updated my song repetoire list of well over 500+ songs. To keep my shows fresh (for BOTH myself and the audience), I'm always looking for new material, as well as rotating the older stuff. Here's my current list of the 100+ favorites which I currently consider (subject to change of course) to be the most popular with my audience. I hope others of you will now share the songs you currently perform. Are there some songs which you have dropped, which you used to perform regularly? Are there some songs that you like but don't perform, and why?

Hi Scott,

Your listeners must be about the same age as mine. They like the old song, real music they can go away humming. Here's a partial list of my favorites. Forgive the spelling and abbreviations. The list was never meant for publication.

Music from "The Great Gumball Music Machine"

Alice Blue Gown
Easter Bonnet
Tell me the way to go home
Green green grass of home
Sweetheart of Sigma Chi
I wonder who’s kissing her now Edelweiss
Elvira
Moon Glow
Paper doll
Sentimental journey
When whippoorwills call
In the mood
Darkness on the delta
Waltz around Texas
Tennessee Waltz
Blue Danube
Oh you beautiful doll
Sunny side of the street
Dina is there anyone finer
Crazy
Little lost child
Heart of my heart
You are my sunshine
When you wore a tulip
I’m looking over a 4 leaf clover
Put on your old gray bonnet
My way
Sweet Georgia Brown
Georgia on my mind
When my sugr wlks dwn the stret
Buttons and bows
Blue moon
Personality
Rockn roll
Shanty in old shanty town
Girls of my dreams

Baby face
Glow worm
If you were only girl in the world
Girl of my dreams
Frankie and Johnny
Little brown Jug
Oh you beautiful doll

Memories are made of this
Yellow bird
Roll out the barrel
Belefonte medley
Cuddle up a little closer
Girl from Ipinema

Little grass shack
Red sails in the sunset
Detroit city
Irish jig
Tea for two
Red river valley
Can’t help falling in love
Dreams

Sleepy time gal
By the time I get to Phoenix
Five foot two

Hope this list brings up some songs to add to your list.

Dan, great tunes. I myself do some of these as well, but my mostly older (40+) target audience prefers the older standards.

Terry: I admire the fact that ALL your 800 tunes are 'originals'.

Hi Gary. Checked your song repetoire list and yes yours contains much of the same material as mine. Classic gold stuff for sure. There are a few tunes on your list that I don't know, so I look forward to checking them out (via internet mp3) and perhaps learn some of them.

Chico: I enjoyed finding out your top 30 song list. Though I too enjoy playing the Jobim tunes in your list, as well as the American Standards, I'm not yet familiar with songs: #7, 8, 9, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 28, and 30. Do you know if these tunes are included in a published fakebook?

Richard: Sounds like a lot your song material is focussed in the earlier part of the 20th century. Looks like a lot of new songs for me to explore.

Actually, though many of my venues are geared to the over 50 set, many in the 25- 40 age group also enjoy the older standards as well, especially because these songs seems to be popping up a lot in movies & commercials. It's been very popular recently for younger contemporary artists (Sting, Natalie Cole, Harry Connick Jr, myself, etc) to perform classic standards from the American Songbook which has brought about a retro resurgence in traditional pop by the younger generation. A lot of a songs success & audience receptiveness has to do with 'HOW' (what style) you deliver the song. I often update my classic pop material to a more contemporary rhythm when playing for a younger crowd. Looking forward to checking out song lists from others of you out there now, in order to get even MORE ideas of new songs to add to my repetoire.

Scott

I'm surprised I don't see much from people like the Mills Brothers or the Ink Spots etc
