I just reviewed & updated my song repetoire list of well over 500+ songs. To keep my shows fresh (for BOTH myself and the audience), I'm always looking for new material, as well as rotating the older stuff. Here's my current list of the 100+ favorites which I currently consider (subject to change of course) to be the most popular with my audience. I hope others of you will now share the songs you currently perform. Are there some songs which you have dropped, which you used to perform regularly? Are there some songs that you like but don't perform, and why? All I Have To Do Is Dream All My Loving All of Me America the Beautiful As Long As I'm Singing As Time Goes By Beer Barrel Polka Besame Mucho Beyond The Sea Blue Bayou Blue Hawaii Blueberry Hill Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy Boulevard of Broken Dreams Bridge Over Trouble Water Brown Eyed Girl Bye Bye Blackbird Cabaret Canadian Sunset Cattle Call Certain Smile, A Chatanooga Choo Choo Cherish Close Your Eyes Cocktails For Two Coffee Song Continental, The Corcovado Crazy Danny Boy Days of Wine and Roses Deep Purple Do You Know Way To San Jose Don't Don't Fence Me In Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying Dream Dream a Dream of Me Eleanor Rigby Embraceable You Fame and Fortune Fever For the Good Times From A Distance Girl From Ipanema Girl Talk God Bless America Going Out Of My Head Goody Goody Grant Ave Hawaiian Wedding Song Honky Tonk Woman I Can't Stop Loving You I Left My Heart In SF I Swear I'll Be There I'm a Believer I'm An Old Cowhand I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry In The Misty Moonlight In The Mood It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing It Had To Be You I've Got You Under My Skin Jambalaya Kansas City Knock Three Times Lady is a Tramp Last Waltz Let's Misbehave Long Gone Lonesome Blues LOVE Love Me Mack The Knife Michelle Misty Mood Indigo Moondance Moonlight Serenade More Nature Boy Night And Day Night Life No Moon At All Oh Lonesome Me On the St Where U Live One Note Samba Over the Rainbow Pennies From Heaven Poor Side of Town Red Sails in the Sunset Release Me Ring of Fire Rocking Robin Route 66 Sentimental Journey Shadow of Your Smile Since I Fell For You Something Stupid Spanish Eyes Stand By Me Summertime Tenderly Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye This Could Be the Start of Something Big This Masquerade Tiny Bubbles Top Hat/Step Out With My Baby Tumbling Tumblewds Undecided Unforgettable Vincent:Starry Night Volare Walk On By Walking After Midnight Wave Welcome To My World What A Difference A Day Makes Wind Beneath Wings Witchcraft Yesterday YMCA You Can't Hurry Love You've Got a Friend Scott

Dan, great tunes. I myself do some of these as well, but my mostly older (40+) target audience prefers the older standards. Terry: I admire the fact that ALL your 800 tunes are 'originals'. Hi Gary. Checked your song repetoire list and yes yours contains much of the same material as mine. Classic gold stuff for sure. There are a few tunes on your list that I don't know, so I look forward to checking them out (via internet mp3) and perhaps learn some of them. Chico: I enjoyed finding out your top 30 song list. Though I too enjoy playing the Jobim tunes in your list, as well as the American Standards, I'm not yet familiar with songs: #7, 8, 9, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 28, and 30. Do you know if these tunes are included in a published fakebook? Richard: Sounds like a lot your song material is focussed in the earlier part of the 20th century. Looks like a lot of new songs for me to explore. Actually, though many of my venues are geared to the over 50 set, many in the 25- 40 age group also enjoy the older standards as well, especially because these songs seems to be popping up a lot in movies & commercials. It's been very popular recently for younger contemporary artists (Sting, Natalie Cole, Harry Connick Jr, myself, etc) to perform classic standards from the American Songbook which has brought about a retro resurgence in traditional pop by the younger generation. A lot of a songs success & audience receptiveness has to do with 'HOW' (what style) you deliver the song. I often update my classic pop material to a more contemporary rhythm when playing for a younger crowd. Looking forward to checking out song lists from others of you out there now, in order to get even MORE ideas of new songs to add to my repetoire. Scott

Good topic. Lately I have REALLY been enjoying something I never thought would make as much of a difference as it has: every week I take an old song that I have played too many times and rearrange it totally, in many cases giving it a more "modern" flavor by allowing more space in the arrangement, adding soft vocal pads, and/or giving it a slight Jobim/Latin flavor. This has proved very successful, and now the older songs I used to loathe to play I love - most noteably, As Time Goes By, Someone To Watch Over Me, Laura, I've Got You Under My Skin, Fly Me To The Moon, The Way You Look Tonight, Can't Help Falling In Love With You, Lullaby of Birdland, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, etc. The reaction from the audience has been totally positive, which surprised me because standards that used to be slow like Someone To Watch Over Me are now more uptempo but people dance to them the same as they always have. It's very refreshing for both the audience and myself, and lately I've been playing 5-7 nights a week so keeping myself from getting bored is very important.

WOW !!! .... Looking at your lists makes me feel that at 61 years of age, MY list is 'cutting' edge ... Seriously, it's great to know that the 'Great American Songbook' is alive and well, ... but I am surprised that there's not more Billy Joel, Elton John, Angelo's guy Manilow, even Garth Brooks ... two songs of his that I've found very popular "The Dance" and "If Tomorrow Never Comes" ... I know UD said he didn't care for "IF Tomorrow.." , but I've found that crowds love it ... Also Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight", Joshua Kaddison's "Beautiful in My Eyes", Edwin McCain's "Could Not Ask For More", Van Morrison's "Have I told You Lately" (not Rod Stewart's version) ... Morrison's "Moondance" also makes a nice swing dance tune.... Speaking of Rod, as Scott Yee said, younger singers are using the "Great American Songbook" and introducing a whole new audience to it ... While I am not a fan of Rod Stewart's attempt at the standards, he will provide exposure to a new audience of listeners as well ... I remember when the movie "When Harry Met Sally" came out, I had young people ask if I knew any of Connick's 'new' music ... little did they realize I was playing it BEFORE he was!!! t.

Do you know if these tunes are included in a published fakebook? Scott There is a new feature at the psrtutorial that will answer that question directly. It is an index to all the songs in all the US fakebooks. That's over 10,000 unique titles. Here is a direct link: http://psrtutorial.com/FakeBooks/FBSongs/fbsongs.html Songs are alphabetized and there is a separate page for each letter. For those who want the complete list, there is also an MS Word document that can be downloaded. It will give you a 61-page 3-column print out. P.S. Since the site has become so large now, I've added a search capability this past weekend. Although I see I'll have to provide better "page titles" now that the search index is operational. The amount of non-PSR specific material is growing. I recently added a section on the Secrets of Chord Progressions. Although pros won't need this, others may find this series of weekly lessons useful in learning all of the chords. Of course, in spite of all these lessons, downloading remains the most popular activity as I now have 400 styles, complete with OTS, tuned to the PSR-2000 plus an additional 500 styles without OTS. The midi files from the PSR Performers are also popular with nearly 700 songs now available at the site.

The Pro: I concur with EVERYTHING you're saying here. The beauty of the arranger keyboard is the ease of which we are able to experiment with and apply new updated styles to those worn tunes we get requested to play night after night, year after year.

Originally posted by Tom Cavanaugh: Scott, Having played in a Big Band for the last 30 years, I think your list looks a lot like ours. I got started in performing the older Pop standards (big band & jazz/pop classics) when Harry Connick Jr hit the scene back in the late 80s. I'm particularly psyched that Norah Jones has garnered a grammys sweep with her album 'Come Away With Me' which includes several terrific classic pop standards: The 'Nearness of You', and 'Cold Cold Heart'. She's not only young (23) & goodlooking, but she's actually a terrific singer and keyboardist as well. Poor Side of Town is a classic Johnny Rivers tune which always receives a great response from my audiences. I use the Yamaha style: '60's Guitar Pop' with the vocal harmonizer on the chorus. I do "Something Stupid" because it's just THAT, and doesn't try to be anything else. My audiences like it because they like everything Frankie. Originally posted by Tom Cavanaugh: Scott, Do you do "Something"? Yep, I have done a LOT of things, including this classic Beatles tune. Scott

Chico Hi Chico, Yes, I am always interested in exploring new songs to add to my repetoire. Thanks to Mathias (José), I now have the chart to Luiza (great chord changes). Embarassingly, I hadn't realized that I do already play Chega de Saudade (No More Blues), and Aquarela do Brasil (Brazil) but only recognized them by their English title. Chico, I would though be very grateful to receive from you, the music PDF (leadsheet/chords) to: Se todos fossem iguais a você. Champagne La puerta Nosotros El dia en que me quieras Senza fine Many thanks. Scott btw: My current favorite Jobim tunes included in my performance repetoire are as follows. I look forward to learning more. Girl from Ipanema Corcovado Wave Meditation Desifinado How Insensitive One Note Samba Once I Loved

Here is the my list of favorite international songs. There are a few french/italian/brasilian/spanish songs in the list, but only the ones that I think are the most widely known internationally. But beeing in Portugal, I sing and play a lot of portuguese contemporay tunes. They are, with no doubt, the favorites of my crowds.
