Hello. I would like to know which file types for sampling can be loaded into the Solton X1. For Example the Kurzwiel can load Akai and Wave samples. It also can load many other sample formats. Does the X1 have the same compatibility?

Hello,
The X1 sampler does not read other manufacturers samples.
The X1 will sample up to 7 seconds . The samples are stored directly to the hard drive or disk and call be accessed via user voices.
You could sample sounds from other keyboards into the X1. However the X1 can not convert Akai or Kurzweil samples. If you have other questions please feel free to email. oneils4@home.com DanO

Hello DanO1
I wish the X1 had more memmory, 8 mb is not alot but i can live with it, my bigger problem is the limitation to only 8 locations to place the multisamples,i wish there was a way to assign multisamples to different locations than A thru H, i'm also hoping the the next os will allow me to use the full 16 mb ram and edit and save samples in the SND format(sound)wich's the same format as when you load the set of 8 sound disks, not only i would have 16 mb of internal ram but also additional 8 mb of flash card ram and more locations ,by the way i know the SD1 has 16 mb of sample Ram but how many locations? does the SD1 have memmory to load sound libraries?.

Hi,

This is AJ (lost my previous registration).

X - series will only load samples of (.wav) format (with OS_3.2 or lower).

Thanks.

Hello Eddy,
The SD1 does allow 16 mb samples . You can also store 16 different samples at a time.
Very different than the X1 . Just FYI ....DanO

George,
Try playing the D50 sounds into the sampler of the X1. Make the samples short (less than 3.5 seconds) . Try it . Dan O.

George,
sampling the D50 is a real chore, because it has heavily processed sounds, with a lot a chorus and so, if you want to avoid audible artifacts, the loops have to be very long; the only exceptions are percussive sounds with short decays, like electric pianos or guitars, and the organs, which can be sampled with ultra-short loops after the very first milliseconds.
One advice: try to listen to a sound like "Staccato heaven" with all the effects off: I think that your jaw will drop, such is the difference!
I have tried to sample these sounds "dry" and then re-adding the effects (with my Ensoniq ASR 10), which has a really nice DSP. Otherwise, I had to sample everything in stereo, with 2 samples per octave and long loops starting after the first 3 seconds. It was a really memory-consuming process, but almost worked. I say almost because I couldn't completely capture the D 50 magic: maybe are those 24 bit D/A converters... However, the ASR 10 was the only sampler which went very close to the original sound: the Akai 3000 was out of question and so I think the same applies to the X1.

Thanks Dreamer,
I appriciate your extensive and informative reply What I am trying to sample is a hi pitch mismar sound that I came up with on the D-50 it does cary some phaser qualities, you think it would lose its quality when sampled on the x1..???
p.s.should I sample the sound on every key on the keyboard or just one octave will be sufficient.??/
