I've had an X-1 for a couple of years and I still love it. I'm considering selling the
X-1 in favor of the SD-1. For those of you that have done so, what are the advantages and disadvantages? Some of the +'s for me are the 76 keys, improved piano and 100 additional styles. I'm a keyboard hobbyist but I will be playing occasionally in public. Is there an easy way to get around the lack of on board speakers? What do people use as a reference monitor? Any thoughts, particualarly from people like Roel and others who have upgraded, is appreciated.

Thanks!

Bob

Bob,

The much better piano's, 76 keys with excellent feel, very good sounding extra styles, more 'pro' look, metal housing.

In my home'studio' I use Yamaha MPS5 (active bi-amped) speakers. They produce excellent sound.

Roel,

Thank you for your comments. Dano, you're the Ketron expert. Does it makes sense to upgrade? If you're playing live, what do people do to hear themselves?
George Kaye, have you had many customers upgrade?

Thanks!

SWEET deal ! Do you guys think the MSP5's are durable enough to act as gigging 'personal keyboard speaker monitors', or are they strictly designed for studio use?

Roel: What PA/speaker setup do you use when performing solo/dual (with Wieste) with your SD1? Do you rely entirely on the Main speaker(s) pointed to the audience, or do you also utilize personal speaker monitors placed 'on' or 'below' your SD1?

Can all voices,Uservoices, Programms and normal SD1voices be used in the styles and
in the Lower1 and 2? On the X1 this is not possible. Is the SD1 better than the X1 in
that way? I own a X1 and that seems an improvement to me when this could be done.

Scott,

On stage we only use the Mackie SRM450 pointed to the audience, slightly behind our position to be able to get the sound impression.
The MSP5 could be a good compact 'partner' (bi-amped 60 W) on stage.

Bob,
When the SD1 came out almost everyone I sold for several months were upgrades from the X1. The comments from all the X1 owners, except those needing middle eastern drums and styles, thought the SD1, just for the new Piano sounds and easier to use interface was worth the trade up. Now, almost 2 years later, those who moved up to the SD1 love it for it's sounds, extra keys, the ability to play styles direct from disk and especially how much more convenient it is to choose styles and sounds from a much improved operating system.
There are many good choices for an external sounds system. Many Ketron players have been using the very light and inexpensive Yamaha YSTMS50 80 watt system which is around $100 dollars. The Yamaha MSP5's are good, but the Midiman Studiophile 5's are 50 watt biamped and approx. the same size as the Yamaha's for $299.00 where the Yamaha's are closer to $450.00 for the pair.
Let me know if there's anything else you want to know.

Bevan,
I didn't know the answer to your question so I just played around with an SD1 in my store. I can use user voices in the style parts and in lower 1 and lower 2, but I cannot use programs in these style locations. I can use any sound I want both from user and preset sounds in these tracks.
