I played tonight to 200 people. That was nice, since my last gig was a bomb.

A funny... at one point, a girl was "sitting in" except she had to sing to a CD, so, I got out of the way. At one point, I hear a helicopter. (I can't hear very well anymore.) It's getting closer and closer and I'm thinking, heck, he's going to land here, it's a t.v. crew! (I'm serious!)

Nope, after about a minute, the singer is looking at me like "Are you going to do something about this?" I finally figured out it was feedback/hum from my acoustic guitar.

You're not the first person this has ever happened to. I have a friend who was performing with me during a New Year's Eve party a couple years ago using an accustic guitar fired through a high quality pickup. He decided to take a break while I continued performing with the keyboard. He placed his guitar on a guitar stand and within a few seconds the helicopter was landing. I quickly figgured out what was happening, turned down the guitar volume on the mixer and the helicopter was gone. The looping feedback was really wild. Later, after everyone had gone home, we fired up the system to see if it could be dulplicated. You could actually see the guitar strings vibrating if you looked at them from the right angle.

Travlin' Easy

Got a similar one! Was playing my normal summer job outside, just off the terrace at the Merrick Inn in Lexington. A long-time friend and his wife had brought his parents to dinner.They were sitting on the terrace, about 30 feet from me. I kept hearing a high pitched squeal, and it was driving me nuts. I kept fooling with the eq during tunes, turning down the mains, fooling with internal keyboards settings...anything and everything I could think of. This went on for almost a full set. Finally, in frustration, I took a break and turned off everything. the squeal was STILL there!

Turned out it was the old gentlemans hearing aid. It was almost as loud as me. He couldn't hear it, and his family was used to the noise.

Obviously, I didn't put much stock in the compliments the old man gave me on the music.

Sadly, he died last year...glad I got to meet him.

BTW....... Where are all the good 21st century protest songs (other than Neil Young, and he doesn't count 'cos he's Canadian - at least according to Bill O'Reilly!). Doesn't anyone care anymore, or does the Clear Channel axis of evil keep them off the airplay now there are no independent radio stations?

Yikes, if he had landed, I'd have packed up and left! That's all I'll say, someone may be snooping.
