latest news for Frankfurt...

The new Ketron Keyboard "Audya" will be shown in Frankfurt on Stand 5.0B18.

This keyboard is a audio loop based keyboard.\
I was told that you can have a guitar player, play a 4 measure riff and that riff can be incorporated into a style ..Audio loops that respond to chord changes...

LOOK OUT ....

We have revolutionalized the Arranger market yet again with a very unique Arranger that emphasises on LIVE and STUDIO quality and lives up to the Ketron moto of BEST NATURAL SOUNDS. We've thought of endless possibilities and flexibility and came up with an arranger that pretty much need not be called an Arranger but (being in a class by itself) we decided to call it the AU*** (will complete the name in time as I am not at liberty to release now).

Talk about massive multi-media connectivity, a totally renovated OS which you can pretty much use to operate basic functions (yes, without a manual) on the keyboard, clean layout and design (I hope I didn't kill too many trees this time around), live controls at your finger tips (you asked for slidders, we gave you slidders [17] ), Artificial Intelligence interactive Arranger (eliminates style playback and creation with loops - you'll see), true human experience (even less of a mechanical feel on styles - rather than using humans to program software to create the styles - we ... well, we used humans to guide humans to create the style), .... plus more!!! With over 300MB of wave ROM (just to give you a point of referense the SD1 is 48MB and sounds good) ... the possibilities are endless!!

Rough price? 76 or 61 notes? (You knew I was going to ask.....) Chord Sequencer (not that pre-canned Riff feature)? Sampler?

Just don't mention the weight!

To add a little to what Dan has stated. I've heard 3 USB ports (2 to device and 1 to computer). 64 MB standard sampling memory and expandable to 256MB. More than 128 note polyphony! I also hear that it won't be available until either late this year or early next year.

Better get TRUE USB 2 speeds to load up that sampler....! Fed up of arrangers that take 4 or 5 MINUTES to load a measly 64MB.

If Ketron are massively expanding on their 'Live Drums' concept, with beat-sliced real audio loops, that 300MB of wave ROM will get chewed up REAL fast.

Beat sliced drums can be VERY authentic sounding, but offer MUCH less opportunity to edit. I think a better use of massive ROM is to have VERY detailed, multi-velocity drum samples (like BFD or DFH2) with ambience sampled in, and have real drummers play electric kits to play them for the style. This would offer MUCH greater opportunity to change beats, or sounds within a kit (can't do that with a beat-slice loop - the snare slice probably has some hi-hat on it, too) with normal, familiar editing tools.

I know that quite a few of you have messed with Acid, or Live, or even old school Recycle, and are probably aware of the time spent trying to find the perfect loop for a particular song. If you don't have it, editing the loop itself (or at least the closest you can find) to be PERFECT is quite a task! It's an awful lot easier to edit a MIDI file to change the beat......

Hopefully, the Ketron won't go completely looped.

Are full details going to come out at Musikmesse if the release date is so far off, or do we continue to get teaser statements?

Only 256mb max sampling memory, that's not much in todays age, but matches the Korg PA800 nicely
Looking forward to hearing this. The SD1 was a good instrument.

Unfortunately, loading even a measly 256MB of RAM at today's paces takes 20 minutes or more. Much more....

Until all the manufacturers wake up and dramatically improve data transfer into RAM, big samplers are primarily a home or studio tool, unsuitable to the improvisational needs of an arranger player. And sadly, most modern sample libraries are not as optimized for small RAM requirements as they used to be in the Akai S2000 days, making the problem even worse.

When are we finally going to see RAM data transfer as fast as laptops? Even my 15 year old K2500 design was four times faster than any current arranger sampler....

Diki,

You'll be pleased at what speeds we've been able to obtain with the latest tech... both in loading and execution.

Care to whet my appetite, AJ? Roughly how many MB/sec load up time (and how many saving, too? T2 is glacial at saving)?

Hi Rolandfan.
I hope so with your comment above.
Yamaha need a good kick up the rear with what they did regarding the loading times of sampled sounds on the T2 and as for only WAV and AIFF support

Go and get 'em Ketron

This is cool! Now we can start the "my keyboard is better than yours" on one that hasn't even been released.

No, we don't live in a perfect world, but that doesn't mean we should willingly participate in making it less perfect.

The SmallGig site is in its infancy. It has the potential to be a valuable site. "Boring" to me is the ongoing, infantile verbal sniping perpetrated by the same few self-styled experts on everything.

I suppose the degradation of this site is only in keeping with the general direction of the taste of the masses. Look at the popularity of the "reality" tv shows that prosper by exposing the weaknesses of participants, or the morbid infatuation of the media with such "news" as the life and death of the talentless, pitiful Anna Nicole Smith. There are very few prime-time TV shows that I would watch with my mother in the room without being embarrassed!
My point is that the affront on intelligent communication is boring, not the exchange of ideas between polite contemporaries.
I apologize for participating in the hijacking of this thread, as it is one of the most relevant to come along lately. However some are already finding faults with this new keyboard, even though it is many months away from being complete.
And why would Scott want to return here when there was so much effort made to run him off?
Scott, as with everyone, is not without fault. He lays his feelings out there for everyone to see and he is an easy target for bullies. He was SUCH a valuable contributor here. He would gladly spend as much time as needed to help anyone who asked.
Over the past seven years or so I have made some very good friends here, including Donnie, Dave, Gary, Scott, Eddie, Fran, Russ, Tom, Boo, George, Frank, Dan--WAY too many to mention all. They know who they are, and I feel they will always be my friends. Because of them, I will continue to monitor this site but I fully expect to participate less and less until it changes direction again.
I post this with real trepidation because I know it is as much contributing to the problem as helping with a solution. But if it makes someone stop and think before posting: "Is there a better way to say this, or is there a way to say this without being hurtful?", then maybe it's worthwhile.

Hi Donm.
Smallgig is a great site and Donm does a superb job on there, so you can always join that and post on SZ as well Have the best of both worlds, SZ=Crazy (at the moment lol) and Smallgig (for those with some common sense)
