I'm a complete idiot when it comes to MIDI. I need some serious help in this area.
Here's what I want to do (if it can be done)...
I want to control my PSR3000 with my Roland KR7 (which is an 88 key 'intelligent piano', as they call it.) Is there a way to assign different channels so that I can control the accomp. of the 3000 and bring in the voices into the KR? In other words, can I turn the 3000 into a virtual Clavinova by connecting it to my Roland KR7?
Or am I dreaming? I realize it will be quite involved mapping this all out via email, but if one of you would be willing to come to my house and set it up for me, I would be very grateful...well, maybe that's a little too much to ask, but anyone who has a strong working knowledge of MIDI - please advise.

Thanks in advance
Tim

If I understand you correctly, you can control the 16 midi channels in the 3000 to be controlled via the other board, by going to the functiion>midi>all parts>edit and setting up all your channels however you like. Don't forget to save the setup when you are done otherwise it will revert back to default as soon as you go out of it.

You cannot "bring those voices into" the other board though, only controll them from the other board.

Terry,
Thanks for your reply. I am not sure I know how to do what you describe, but I will try it. I'll let you know if I can make it happen.

Hi Tim,
I used to have my kn7 midied to my Clavinova CLP170.

I only had a very simple setup. Basically all I wanted to do , was use the Clav to trigger the styles ( either with the split or in full pianist mode)& use the Clav's piano sound as main melody voice. I also wanted to hear the KN7 stylles ( sounds) thru the Clav's speaker system, so that both were playing thru the same system.

For cables all I had was midi out from Clav, to Midi In on KN7. Audio, I had audio out from kn7 to audio in on the Clavinova.

Next up it was just a case of matching up the midi channel.

The KN7 actually had automatic settings.

Sorry but I can't help with the settings on a psr .

May just be a case of trial & error till you work it out.

Maybe try , connecting the cable, have the psr ready if you were going to play it, and then try individually try all 16 midi out channels in your piano, and see if any of them start the psr playing.

Used to work beautifully with the kn7 & the VA7.

Sorry that I couldn't be more help.

best wishes
Rikki

p.s. With OMB software , my Clav is set to send ( midi out ) on midi channel 1.
