Hi gang,

even though it is in german you might like it.
http://www.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha_euro...n_v1_0_300k.wmv

I liked Sultans of swing. Very good guitar emulation.
At the end he demos new sounds made for the german market. Not my style, however I really like the new Clarinet.

Enjoy

Eric

Hi Eric,

Thanks for posting Michel Voncken’s new demo on the Tyros2. What a brilliant presentation? I was glued to my monitor for 16 mins as I watched him perform one hit after another. I would add Eye of the Tiger as another notable emulation. Michel makes it look so simple. This is the mark of a Pro. He is my favorite presenter in the Yamaha Team.

I am keeping this 47MB WMV file to impress my friends. There is nothing that can beat the Tyros2 when it comes to Super Articulation. The demo used only the stock voices and styles. Wait till you hear some of the custom voices and styles that are available on the web.

I enjoyed Michel’s demo of the Yamaha PSR-E403 as well. He makes it sound larger than life. This goes to show that even a cheap E403 can come alive in the hands of a talented performer. No matter what the gear with all its bells and whistles, it finally boils down to the skill and knowledge of the player.

The performance assist feature – monkey on a keyboard – was hilarious!

I wonder if those special voices for the German market shown at the end of the first video will be make available here.

FYI: The link to all the demos is:
http://www.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha_europe/download/movies/01_product_demos/

However, many of the links don't work on this page. Play around with the URLs gets you going.

The Tyros II demo is also in English http://www.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha_europe/download/movies/01_product_demos/TyrosII_2006/

When you watch what he does you will so lots of changing of registrations and using the A-B-C-D style buttons for turnaround accents. He does a great job and is an accomplished player. But I think you can do so too. You are not watching a demo of someone just playing around. You are watching someone comfortably playing a highly practiced performance.

Like anything else in music, there is no shortcut to practice. The difference with the arrangers is that beyond the regular practice of playing the keys in time, musically, you also have to practice pressing the buttons in time, accurately, as well. Just another type of chops.

I continue to learn things like playing breaks with the break button or hitting the A-B-C-D style button provides radically different fills depending on where in the measure and even where within the beat I press the key. Lots to discover. Lots to practice.

Hi Robert,

thanks for posting the english version.

I 100% agree with you in the above post: "I continue to learn things like playing breaks with the break button or hitting the A-B-C-D style button provides radically different fills depending on where in the measure and even where within the beat I press the key. Lots to discover. Lots to practice."

To get the most out of todays arrangers we have to "dig in" and learn all we can.
Triggering fills, breaks, and changing registrations at the right time is as important as playing the song, to sound more realistic.

Well said.

Eric

Guys,

I'd love to visit one of Michel Vonken's workshops.

Not impressed by P. Baartman's demo of YPG-625. He talked too much and played too little - probably because there is not much interesting to show. Great piano sound, few new styles.

I respect these guys for their effort to present Yamaha's new gear. Wish them good luck

Regards,
George

Very hard to say,

I think he uses fingered mode but he changes chords so fast without moving his left hand as much as possible so its hard to even see which keys he is hitting.

its annoying how in this video they turn the chord display off.

Hello Nick.............Thanks for the reply. I too was annoyed to see no chord display. Michel seems to change chords several times each measure! I think it is full fingered, but also thought it might be AI mode?? Does he ever tour the USA?? It would be great to meet him. -charley

I would just want to see him play something and show you in slow motion what chords he hits...

I wonder how much he has to practice in order to play for a full 15 minute video and not make one single error.

even after being so use to playing certain songs over and over, you still hit a wrong note or hit double keys here or there when your playing something as fast as he is...

alot of the time the songs he plays are quite simple.. but its the chords he uses.. and he uses sooo many chords inbetween chords if u get me...its like he is manually controlling the bass notes one by one...

Gday Nick,

If I were hard to please I'd say he made more than one error - just give a close listen to the guitar solo of 'Sultans of Swings' - many notes are out of time, or just deafly played.

I know this pass before the large audience but wouldn't please any of my piano teachers.

However, I agree with you. He plays with ease.

George

I also liked the TVA voices he was demonstrating, they would sound great with the onboard slager styles. Are these voices available now, or are they in the upcoming release of new T2 goodies I've seen mentioned here? -charley

Put whatever keyboard you like in his hands, and I'll bet it sounds great regardless to what brand!

Happy Playing
