I have just bit the bullet and have purchases a PSR 2000 Mixed feeling but overall very pleased. I have my rack sampler (Kurz) hooked up to the Yamaha - When I make a program (Y 2000) change ie Grand piano insted of getting a program no1 in the K2000 I get a five digit number like 11277 which is totally unusable by the Kurz. - anysuggestions out there. - Where is a good user group for the psr2000 -
Mainer: Exactly how and where are you attempting to trigger the program (patch) changes? Are you trying to do this via the PSR2000, K2000, or thru an external midi sequencer? What sequencing software (if any) are you using, and how is the equipment (PSR2000, K2000, Computer?) connected & configured via midi cables? You really need to provide a LOT MORE detail. - Scott
Thanks for responding All reference to the K2000rs will be "K" and the Yamaha PSR 2000 will be "Y" The Y is set up as the master keyboard and the K is set up as a sound module. Y midi out to K midi in - midi messages are getting through - If I set a patch on the K it will play fine on the Y. Midi is communicating just fine. Here is what is happening exactly. If I push the Piano Harpsi button on the Y I get a 11200 patch no in my K, if I then push the Bright piano I get 11201. My confusion is that most patch numbers are only 3 digits. So my guess I is I am getting Sysex numbers transmitted (dumb guess). I did disable the sysex in the Y and that stopped the receiving of any patch changes. The whole K Y thing is getting slippery as hell (Sorry, kind of my sick sense of humor)

Mainer,
What you're getting is the bank change message (112) followed by the patch change. The Kurzwiel should ignore the bank change info, if it doesn't have banks. If you want more conventional program changes, look in the PSR2000 list book for patches that have bank change msb=0 and lsb=0.
It is the Bank select MSB and LSB byte followed by the program change message.
Probally the best thing to do is to Ignore program change on the K2000 Rack and use its QA bank features for quick selection of sounds and setups when playing live. While forcing you to press buttons on both machines, it is probally much easier and more reliable than most other solutions.

I play what works for the job
Thank you every one for your help. Bit dump I'm afraid your right but it sure is awkward. I was considering moving up to a 2600 K (still am) but find the lost of program changes via the master a real downer. I will still try to find a work around because I think it will be worth it. The sounds from both the K & Y are great and really compliment one another rather then duplicate each other. I get great pianos and organs from the K so it fills in minor weakness on a very, very good arranger keyboard. The Yamaha seems to be a real winner in this price range. I will still try working on a decent working solution. Thanks again!!!

Steve,
I notice that your screen name is YamahaUS1, you wouldn't happen to own one of those great US-1 organs would you? I have one and absolutely love it. The US-1 also behaved very well with the K2000rs.
Might be cheaper to get yourself a simple midi filter/processor box between the PSR and the Kurz, then set it to filter out any bank changes. Or.. you could just select the piano voice on the psr first, then change it on the kurz, unless you need voice changing via midi.

The point being that theres an option that suggests the K2000 can respond to bank change. If this applies to you, you also need to know that Yamaha use "standard" bank change techniques which uses both controllers 0 and 32; 0 is Bank MSB and 32 is bank LSB; I think any program change is communicated as Bank MSB, Bank LSB then Prog Change. MSB is zero except for drum and SFX banks; LSB goes from 0 to 117(ish).
