Hi

Seems like it's more activity about Ketron at this part of SZ than it is at
the SZ Ketron forum, and earlier post about this issue just disapeared down
the pages without any replies or hints and tips about it.
Even support at Ketron Italy don't bother reply email, so here I am again:

Wonder if there are somebody who can explain...

After the update to 4.0b, also 4.0c there are some bugs, i.e. when play the
Piano Ball from custom styles 8 Beat section, the endings are missing!! ??
Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong?

When try call up the style from folder 90 to replace, I got message
"2 PAT. Fat Error" when try to save as described in the upgrade manual.

I also try reload the styles as described in manual page 121 and everything
looked to work fine, but when turn on keyboard, all styles was missing.
Started all over again, and now it's v 4.0c "successfully" installed, but
still the style (pat) PianoBal in Custom Style section miss the endings and
break etc.
Also same message came up when try replace following the manual.

Also I notice that I have to be very very accurate when hold the left hand
chords (fingered mode), if not all fingers leave or hit the keys for the next
position at once, the SD1 don't play as smooth as other keyboards I've had my
fingers on.
Is this a bug, or is it just the way it is??

Otherwise I'm very pleased with the Sd1 so far, it's the nearest thing to
"live performance" keyboard I've ever heard, whatever style changed, it's the
same band playing. GREAT!
But it looks like the new (little brother?) SD5 does a great job too, it sounds
fantastic gigged up and wired to PA, so I'm really looking forward to explore
the new "big brother" in the Ketron SD family when it arrive.

Cheers and Happy Playing

Hi Tony

When I say "whatever style changed" it's the same band playing, I mean that
it's a big difference between Ketron and other brands in this case as long
as you use the internal (or factorysupplied) styles.
At the SD1 you can swap from one to another without a lot of tweaking and
still it sounds like the "very same live band performing at the stage".
The sounds/voices are well balanced, and I feel the different instruments
are sounding much better now than the first time I heard and tryed it out
some years ago.

Of course there are different sounds and instruments used when change between
all the styles, but the overall way SD1 sounds don't make me "jump high in the
chair" and give me the feeling of that it's another CD playing when start play
the next song.
The brand nearest to SD1 when give a "live" feeling like this, I think most
be Korg.

Hope what I try to describe is understandable.

Cheers

Gunnar ... thank you ... fully understood ...
I was just wondering if there was a feature in the SD1 that allowed you to keep the same instrumentation when going from one style to another ...
This might be a helpful feature ... In some songs, such as "Green Dolphin Street", I switch from a 'Latin' style for the verse to a 'jazz swing' style for the chorus, and then back again ... It would be nice if I could make the exact same instruments play in each style ...
Anyone else think that this might be a useful feature?

Tony, I use a style from the G1000 and changed the variation of another G1000 style, keeping the same instrumentation...It is easy to do..for songs like On Green Dolphin Street...My change from swing to latin is via after-touch..

Gunnar, try contacting AJ, maybe he can address this problem....

I always thought it was dumb, that a variation of the same style..used a different bass [upright to a frettless as an example]and a completely different drum kit..too, when going to another variation of the same style..

I recall Korg and Yamaha doing this..

Hi Jonny,
the sd1 & sd1+ I think have some minor differences so may not apply.

Did you actually load the style correctly into the custom style area? ie replace the existing custom with the new one.
On the sd1+ there's actually 2 spots for styles. Custom styles & single styles
(which are also loaded onto the sd harddrive) & accessed by the same "style" buttons.
I found it quite confusing at first.

Your Piano Ballad style isn't faulty??

Sorry but I can't help with update problems.

best wishes

Tony,

I'm not quite sure if that is possible. There is some feature regarding different
registrations who can be saved, several options, but I've not been so deep into
all that yet. Anyway it should be possible to do by edit styles as you desire....
I want to make this kboard updated as it should be before I start study it more
closely.
By all mean, it's just one style so far, and I have fun when play it, but it's d***
irritating!! Grrrr!!
I hate it when I can't get rid of such bugs, cause it should not be any at the
first place! LOL

Fran,

I've already made more than one post about it at Ketron forum, but I guess AJ are
too busy take care of the new meber of the family these days.

Rikki,

I'd just try replace style as described in the upgrade manual, same method as when
replace older pat with the new and reworked ones downloadable among the files for
OS update.
But if other people who has done the upgrade don't have this fault, there most be
a reason for why this happens at this SD1, specially when it's OK before the OS
upgrade. Therefor I think it's a fault in the downloadable files.
I've even downloaded everything and did upgrade once again to be sure, and both by
copy to floppydiskettes, then to SD1, and also by use of ftp transfer via PC cable
by use of the software downloadable. Result are the same; faulty PianoBall.

The good thing is that the style play OK when place the style copied from folder
#90 into a userfolder, but when try to do as manual says to replace the damaged
file into custom styles where it should be, the message "2 PAT. Fat Error" still
comes up in display.

Cheers

Hi Jonny,
have you tried replacing custom styles individually as per page 59 of manual.

Not as a Reload as per last paragraph , but as if you were loading a brand new custom style.

Also read the instructions on Ketron Italy about upgrading. It mentions about erasing & having to reload stuff back in etc etc
Sounds like a fairly major job.

I had been tempted to try "Upgrade for SD1Plus" the third file down, now I'm not so sure I'm game to do it.

best wishes

Hi Tony,
found this function in the SD1 Manual.
I tried it, but I only managed to get it to work within the style itself. ie if I selected drums the drum pattern & sounds didn't alter throughout the style, if I selected bas, same bass pattern thru all the variations, unfortunately when I chose a different style, nothing stayed locked in. Either I've misunderstood something, or I've got a bug in my keyboard.

Actually the second function Interactive arranger is brilliant. You can choose up to 4 tracks to mute, so if you've got a busy style and you want to feature your solo playing, you choose which of the parts you want to mute, your pattern plays with full instrumentation until you start playing a right hand melody , and all the parts you've selected get muted, when you stop playing melody, all the muted parts start playing again. Hadn't noticed this function before. Still learning, this complicated beast. Definately has some very interesting performer functions.
--------------------------------------------

LOCK: This calls up the Lock and Interactive Arranger page. It is possible to select which accompaniment tracks among Drums, Bass
and Orchestra, situated to the left of the display, will not change timbre and rhythm, so that the tracks of one style can be
combined at pleasure with those of another. It is also a quick way of playing back a style with timbres of another style and
to thus create endless variations on the subject.

When the Interactive Arrange (F10) function is enabled the player can
choose which of the automatic accompaniment tracks set in On among 2, 3, 4 and 5 will not be played when at least one key
of the Right section of the keyboard is pressed. The tracks will start playing again at the following beat, if no note of the
Right section is played. Thus it is possible to directly control the state of the tracks from the lead.

best wishes

Thanks Rikki.

Done all that regarding to the manual and also the upgradedescription at Ketron's
webpage.
So the steps works nice until last part when the saving shall be done, then the
error message turn up.

The "Upgrade for SD1Plus" should not cause any problems, because that c upgrade
is only a single diskette, and that part was no problem.
The problem starts when 4.0b are installed.

Happy Playing

Hi Jonny,
I gather you didn't install the SD1+ version , just the sd1 version of 4c??
I spotted 3 different versions of 4 c on the site.

Hi again,

today I got e-mail from Ketron Italy with a single file to load.
This repaired the problem nice and easy without any further
action than load the file!
Great, Ketron did respond to my question typed and sent from the
Ketron It webpage.

Happy Playing.
