Love of, and pride in, one's country is to be admired no matter where in the world, and the British certainly have no shortcomings in this regard. Typically though, it's displayed in a very understated manner, and what may well be the stumbling block for your "very British husband", well, see below . . .

Counted as EU? Not really, we're a long way from there. Anyway, the Queen has no say in whether the UK are part of the EU or not.
