Some of you may remember that my wife Lydia and I spent 17 glorious days in Italy earlier this year … The second night of our trip we were so fortunate to meet and have dinner with Dreamer (Andrea Rotolo) During dinner, a strolling guitar player/vocalist came by and Andrea asked for a song “Roma, Non Fa La Stupida Sta Sera” (Rome, please don’t be silly tonight) … I immediately fell in love with the song and asked every musician I saw performing in Italy to play it … They ALL knew the song …
When we returned home I e-mailed Andrea and asked where I might be able to get a copy of the music … a day or so later, I get an e-mail response with a copy of the sheet music attached …
The song is about a young man who is going on a date with the woman of his dreams … He wants everything to be perfect and asks Rome not to be stupid that night, and to help in his quest …
Andrea gave me a literal translation, and I took the liberty of writing an English lyric, trying to stick as close as possible to the original story line …
I have been fooling around with the song for some time, learning the Italian lyrics as well, and just about when I thought I was ready to record it I had trouble with ACID … I am now in ‘record mode’ again, and even though I am not pleased enough to call this the final product, (I hear ‘clipping’ in the song, and it may be a little 'pitchy') I thought I would put it out there for you to hear and comment on.
It is an mp3 and it’s 9.6MB.
So, in the spirit of Columbus Day weekend, here it is:

The next link is to a photo of the three of us …. Andrea is the GOOD looking guy :

Yes, this is a great tune and your's is a nice interpretation of it. Several years ago, I learned the The Lights of Roma, the Jerry Vale rendition of the song, which has some different lyrics than your version - especially the English lyrics. Thanks for sharing.
Ciao,
Jerry

Thanks Tony,

Very Nice....not bad for a Giants fan

Did you record the song with your Technics 6500? I didn't notice any flaws as you mentioned.

Hope to hear more

Steve ... We really had a WONDERFUL night with Andrea ... He is so passionate about life ... it's BEAUTIFUL ....

Living in Manhattan wouldn't be half bad ... it's when you live outside and have to commute 5 days a week that's the problem ... Wave to all my goombahs on "the Rock" (Staten Island) as you pass by on the ferry ....

Nice work, Tony. The original song was kept from "Rugantino", a very popular musical by Garinei and Giovannini, with songs written by Armando Trovajoli. You may be pleased to know that it was also performed in the USA several times, and you can get a copy in English somewhere.

Best regards,
Paolo

Hi Tony, just had the opportunity to listen to your rendition of: “Roma, Non Fa La Stupida Sta Sera”. Nice intimate feel & sound. Terrific growth in both your singing and instrumental arr playing. Nice accordion work. Good balances and a heartfelt vocal delivery. Though I've not had the opportunity to travel to Italy (yet), your song really captures the spirit of Italian Romannce, and hear how you've re-discovered your Italian roots. Bravo!

Though I haven't posted on SZ (or ANY of the arranger kb forums (including PKOwner) in recent weeks), I check in here regularly. As I said in an earlier thread , I've NOT left Synthzone, but not posting as often, as I need to focus more time on other priorities. I'll continue to post here occasionally to keep you all up to date on my music.

Scott
