Hi Rolandfan,
must admit, this is the first time I'm ever bothered watching. The Socceroos
have had Aussies glued to their seats at the most ridiculous hours of the morning,
this morning it started 1am.
Personally, neither hubby or I know how the rules work, but I tend to think we got dudded by a wrong desician in the last minute of the game & Italy won, 1 to 0.
Left us a bit flat, but at least we'll end up with normal sleeping patterns again. haa haa
Rugby & Aussie rules are the main football sports here, it was great having the Socceroos bring a nation together.

best wishes
Rikki

Tony, Donny,
you are wrong. Germany will win. I don't like 'em but they are the host of the championship.

I'd love to watch Brasil and Argentina on the final.

I know exactly what you mean, though the time here in California was much more civilized. I watched the end of the game that finished here at around 10.00AM. I NEVER watch soccer but just because it was Australia my wife Kerry had it on when I got up this morning. Boy that Italian player was a bit of a poser and although he hadn't been tripped he certainly behaved like he had. ( Not like that sort of thing ever happens in Aussie Rules hey ???? ).

Oh well. The Aussies played really well though and we felt they actually deserved to win the game. We were robbed !!!!

A friend of mine suspected that the referree was tired and needed to rest. That's why he gave a penalty to Italy - probably hi didn't have enough stamina to endure 30 minutes extra time.

Here in South Africa we see the matches at exactly the same time as germany 5pm and 9pm. Although i supported Italy in that match i think its a shame Australia had to be ROBBED by the ref in literally the last few seconds of injury time. I think im looking forward more to the Germany Argentina match than the finals lol. These 2 teams met in the finals in 86 and 90. Argentina won in 86 and Germany won in 90. Argentina have a much improved team compared to the last few world cups. Germany is as strong as always but im praying the Argentinians can win. Germany had their chance in the finals 4 years ago...Its Argentinas turn to try and beat Brazil South Africa is currently the WORST ranked soccer team. Everybody here is saying that we will not win a single match at 2010 . We cant play soccer well anymore. Its a shame.

Is there nobody else here who likes the John Williams Superman theme music which Mr Ottman has kept intact in Superman Returns? Im looking foward just as much to the music as to the film. That theme music over the last 28 years became a part of American culture and mythology

I've been watching most of the matches whilst off work ill and England have been extremely lucky to keep winning. They don't play very well when you watch the other classy teams.
I thought Australia should have won yesterday and the bad refs decision was a letdown. They got robbed at the last minute.
Brazil, Argentina or Germnay for me to win.

I promise you.
England will beat all their opponents, even Brazil. But why even mention Brazil ? They have forgotten how to play

Here's to the victories of England and their coming home with the Jules Rimet.

cheers

Hi Rolandfan,
I luv movie theme music.

John Williams composes some wonderful movie scores.

I think my favourite movie theme composer is John Barry. ( Chaplin, Dances with Wolves, Out of Africa etc (& he does the Bond themes also)

Superman looks like it's going to be rather an interesting movie. I've only seen very short snippet.

best wishes
Rikki

Deutschland, Deutschland...Uber alles!!!!

England...yawn...so boring.

Never underestimate Brazil. Even France is starting to look better.

Would've loved to see Ghana advance, though. The Soccoroos as well. Way to go, Aussies!

Hi Taike,
you're not German by any chance?? haa haa

Unfortunately the Aussies got knocked out by Italy. Took us 30 years to make this appearance, hopefully it doesn't take another 30 before we get another chance to compete.

My grandmother (my father's side) was German.

Australia did a great job and it was fun to watch them play. I don't see them as having lost for they come out of nowhere and even gave Italy, a soccer powerhouse, the jitters. The Australian team gained experience and a lot of respect.

Oh well, the rest of the world has still a lot of catching up to do when it comes to Australian football!

The first page of the Sydney Daily Telegraph.

Gus Hiddink (coach of Australia) said, among the other things: "In this game if you don't score you don't win... we had good possibilites, played even 11 vs 10 but nothing... and this in the end made the difference"

Thanks, Nigel, but I am the first one to admit that we haven't played well so far; our playmaker (Francesco Totti) is still recovering from a bad injury at his leg and we have half-defense out, for one reason or another, so... we can only improve!

But the socceroos will be missed for sure!

Italy would have won 4-0 against germany had the 2 shots on target gone in. Both hit the bar. I really thought Germany would win but the Italians outclassed them this time.

Andrea! Congratulations to your Country Italy on your big win today! Recalling the fun time we spent together at the San Francisco North Beach Festival during your visit here a few years ago, San Francisco's North Beach district went WILD (yet again) to celebrate Italy's win today against Germany! Today, North Beach citizens felt both Italian & American (celebrating our July 4th, American Independence Day as well). - Scott

Congrats to Italy.
What was particularly good about this game against Germany was that the Referee refused to react to the silly antics which unfortunately are spoiling our beloved game.
The falling as if poleaxed and the dives make the game pure theatre and the sooner it is stamped out by the referees, the better for the game and all the spectators.
This was a wonderful game of football and thankfully it didn't go to penalties because Italy may have been cheated out of a deserved win.
I am now hoping that they take the Jules Rimet to Italy.
cheers

It was a fantastic game. I sat glued to my seat and was knocked out by those final 2 goals. It was a real nail biter, especially with those 2 near goals near the end where Italy bounced a ball off both the post and then the crossbar. They really wanted those 2 goals and totally deserved to take the game like they did. It really was amazing soccer and definately was the most notable game in the series up to now anyway.

Go Italy !!!!
