34 jobs for December, two on NYE (one during the day) and I still managed to keep four days open. Just another normal month.

Cheers,

Hi guys, I have 20 gigs....some are doubles (few) I do not like to rush, that includes New Years eve, is a very good month, I have had 20 or more gigs in the last few months, but money is better.
The types of gigs are mainly dances for seniors and also lots of Xmas parties, and a couple Bday parties.
I hope my PA 800 arrives before Xmas.

Nice work guys, someday I'd like to have the number of gigs that many of you have. I have 4 for the month of December actually turned one down because of a conflict, but with a 55 hour per week full time job, plus family and other of life's committments/responsibility can't do it all. Hope someday to reverse the equation and work a lot less and play a lot more. One things for sure I'm learning a a lot here.

Happy Holidays or what I really mean is Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I just reshuffled my schedule (that's muso-speak for quitting one job and getting another) and now I'm booked solid through the month except that I now have Sundays off, which is an unexpected bonus. Wait a minute - NYE is on a Sunday - so I have almost every Sunday off.

In numbers that means:

23 restaurant gigs
1 corporate party
2 private parties

I've never had to LOOK for a NY's eve job. Somebody always calls, usually several. It's not the end of the world if they don't. Haven't had one off in 30 years!

I don't have my calendar in front of me. I do nursing homes, retirement homes, senior centers, and park districts. I have about 65 one hour shows. That's if I survive. I have never had such a grueling schedule in my life, and I hope my voice and overall health hold up.

Someone gave me some important advice: Wash your hands regularly, and wash your keyboard keys regularly to avoid getting sick.

I would love to get information from Bill about shopping mall gigs. I bet those pay very well!

I just looked at my book, and actually, I have 54 shows. So my kudos to Bill in Dayton.

While I declare all of my income on my taxes, I would loathe being audited. I'm afraid that if the IRS finds one of my daughter's toys in my home office they will declare that it is not exclusively used for business and that I owe back taxes and penalties.

Hey Beak-

My arrangement pays me a slightly less than my average rate for solo shows in the Dayton area. However, this mall books me no less than 30+ times per year...and refers me out to an average of 10-15 other higher paying gigs. There is a mid sized hotel attached to the Mall and I've picked up various shows there over time. Bottom line, the visibility is incredible and the slight break I give them on price has come back to me ten fold, I'm sure.

Also, as they know they aren't my highest paying client per show, they have always made it comfortable for me to reschedule a date should another client want to use me on a date I'm booked at the Mall.

It really works pretty well for me...

Bill

So Bill, how did you approach the mall (or did they approach you) with the unusual proposition of playing an arranger keyboard? Very cool gig.

What kind of music do you do at a shopping mall?

I approached them when I still use a digital piano and sang...

Its evolved into something bigger now.

I play almost anything...Lots of seniors come to listen-so lots of standards, classic country, some oldies, a little pop...

Me neither Don .... first time in 33 years.
I turned down 3 "offers" that were stinky money. If I can't get what I deserve ... I'd rather watch Dick Clark !

I turned down $600, $750 and a really rude low ball that was laughable. My starting rate is $1000 for such a high profile night.
That's my rate, and I'm STICKIN' to it !

This could be the first year with a midnight kiss from someone that actually matters ! ( I'm excited ! )
