Is the E-60 in the US? I looked around and didn't see any for sale.

Can't say for the US, but it is here in Canada...I played one two days ago.

Ian, from a Yamaha fan's view ..what was your initial thoughts about the E-60

I had a brief encounter with the Roland E-60 while on tour in Newfoundland...the store was Music Stop, part of a chain here in the Maritimes.

Nice feeling keyboard, generous 76 notes, and a fairly easy to use touch screen (although it was a wee bit small).

Biggest disappointment were the acoustic pianos (Natural Piano etc.)...all were weak/thin in the octaves above and below middle "C" and had unnaturally short decays on the upper octaves.

Rock/Jazz Organs were very good, but there weren't many of them.

I didn't have much time to try the other features/voices, but the styles I did try were very good.

I wish I could add more, but the schedule I was on was pretty hectic, and didn't allow me much time.

Have you played a G70 or E80, Ian? Would you say the E60's pianos were thin in comparison, or just haven't heard the top-of-the-line Rolands?

And what did they play it through (I am so sick of hearing $4k arrangers through $300 mono keyboard amps!)?

I have played the G70 several months ago, and I must say, I believe its pianos were a little more robust(they didn't have a G70 for comparison).

The key feel was far better on the G70 as well, although the E-60 felt very nice.

Haven't seen the E-80 here yet, although I'm sure they'll be in the local Music Stop store before too long.

I listened through a pair of high quality headphones as well as through the onboard speakers, which were quite good.

In either case, the pianos were definitely thinner around middle "C", and the short decay sounded very unnatural on the higher keys.

The organs were typically Roland....warm and rich sounding, very Hammond-like, and utilizing a fairly realistic Leslie simulation (I liked it better than the one on the 3k).

The reach to the bender is a stretch because of the longer keyboard, and not something I would like, although I guess you could get used to it.

The ergonomics were fine, and having owned several Rolands, it was easy to navigate around on it...I liked the feature of the Bass Inversion having its own dedicated panel button.

I didn't like the small touch screen, but again, it could be something one could get used to.

I'd say that it would be a tad awkward to move, especially in a road case...30 lbs is a bit on the heavy side and it is quite big.

It's unfortunate I didn't have more time to spend with it...it seems like a nice instrument(except for the pianos, which are subjective).

My E-50 will arrive early next week. I am hoping the pianos are not 'thin' as described. I've not had a Roland with thin pianos before, including the inexpensive models

You must remember, this is only my opinion...the pianos may sound very good to your ears.

I only had a very short time with the E-60 and I had been playing the Tyros2 for several days prior.
