Hi Donny,
sounds great.
The backing , is it one of the midijay styles ?? if so which one? ( just in case it's also on my sd1+, haven't had a chance to go thru all the styles yet.
Certainly hope you do some more songs for us.

best wishes
Rikki

I enjoyed that a lot Donny. I just came from AJ's workshop down in DC and I'm probably going to be getting the Midjay. I don't really want to buy a new board right now, but the MJ can fill in the gaps I have with new styles and all of the other options it has. You're really sounding great man!

Salud,

Joe

....Hi Rikki, Joe.....Thanx for the listen...I used a Style called ORCHESTRA SLOW I believe its a Sd-1 style...which I tweaked a bit to my taste.....I also used "lower on" to add some string pad to the style, I wanted that orchestra feel to it... Im sure you can recreate it with your Sd-1............

Joe.....Tell us about the Workshop with AJ...Im sure he gave you a good Demo..
The MJ is a great unit once you get used to its features for sure.....When Im down your way to see gary maybe we can get together and catch your act also ok?

Ciao

I like it alot, although, I would prefer to hear the keyboard more on this song. Which I fight on my recordings, as well. I like the song, too. Nice song.

Donny:

Nice job on a great tune! Like Bill, I'd be interested in hearing the midjay/keyboard without vocals.

I rarley do instrumentals. But I can assure you the MJ will not disappoint!!
For this particular one take song I used Philharmonic Strings, Trumpet, Piano, Brush set....etc. Like I said it was the first tune.maybe when I get time I can do something with more instruments involved...and mix it up a bit with some good fast rock & roll tunes using a Hammond organ, Elec Guitar, Sax etc .

Excellent Donny,
You sure seem to suit the MidJay. Nice comfortable, and relaxed performance. I'm seriously considering the Midjay to compliment/add arranger functions to my RS-70.

Nice work as usual Donny

Tony I would recommend the MJ to anyone who wants Top Notch Sounds, and style versatility way beyond just an Arranger KB... You can make it as complex or as simple as you want. It's an amazing 7-lb little box that really is Packed Jammed with so many choices to create, perform & record music through many modes alone or all together. Thanx for the listen My good friend from across the pond !!

I liked this demo too. No harmony? Guess you didn't spring for the harmonizer option? That's okay, this demo sounds better than a lot of acts I've heard. I'm still strongly considering the MJ myself but I've decided to wait until after NAMM to see if any other similar devices are on the horizon or if Ketron is coming out with anything like a MidJay Mark II.

I wish Keytron or somebody would post some video clips of AJ's workshop for those of us that can't attend, or does that make too much sense? (I'm bad about that )

Jim.....Thanx for the listen.....I havent yet purchased the Vocal harmonizer card for the MJ ...but its on the Horizon, kinda busy these last few weeks with the holidays & being the MJ is relativly new to me I need to first get it the way I wanted for stage performance......and then work on the frills......good luck in your new choices.

Hi Donny,

I'd love to get together with you guys. AJ was great today. He really has a command of all 5 of the boards he had up. He ran throught what he considered the strong points of each board and gave us a really good feel for what they all could do. My favorites were the G 70 and the Ketron SD1. IMO they have the best live sound. I really prefer the gutsy live sound over the very polished sound of the other boards. My decision to get the MJ is based on the fact that my G 1000 is still working and sounding great so I just need something to add the things I don't have. From what you've said over the past few months and what I saw today, the MJ will be a great addition to my set up. And anything weighing only 7 pounds definitely has my attention.

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Donny, thanks for finally giving me my first opportunity to hear a song recorded by a SZ member, utilizing the new Ketron Midjay. Nice vocals. I think this is your best vocal effort so far, with the SM58 an idea match for your voice. Your voice (timbre/style) sounds reminenscent of Dean Martin on this song. Nice arranger style choice, though imo, no more realistically 'live' sounding than Yamaha, of which I was given the idea it would sound. The auto accomp arranger style (though very nice) doesn't sound that much different or better than what the Yamaha Tyros2 can deliver as well. I think both Ketron & Yamaha arrangers both sound impressively live, abeit perhaps just different sounding.

Ok Donny: I'm anxious now to hear a song from you featuring Ketron's realistic sounding LIVE DRUMS, which purportedly blows away Yamaha's drums.

Man, it's now only a week and a half from NAMM, so I'm looking forward to stopping by the Ketron booth to say hi to AJ, and of course check out the Midjay, as well as Ketron's newest keyboard offering. Would love to meet other SZ members there too. I'll be there on opening day (Thursday, Jan 19th). Who else is going to be there then too? I would love to meet any other SZ members attending or in the area then as well. I'm arriving in Anaheim on the 18th, and returning home mid day on the 20th.

Scott

Scott......thanx for listening....
as for blowing away other kb's which is really tired now.....tyros & sd-1/MJ are on equal mountains but on two different peaks.
The players perception & happiness mixed with their talent and playing ability is the driving force behind the sound.
Enjoy whatever tool your chose to make music.

Stay well

Donny... sounds great. Good to hear something somewhat familiar on the zone. Good style, one which I use often. The Ketron patterns are limited in number compared with Yammys, but they're all really good ones.

Hi Donny. That was really nice.I too have a midjay and I love it.What effects setting did you use on the vocal?I use a shure beta 87a and find that I have to trim some of the high end off.The sm58 sounded very good, but then again you are a fine singer so that always helps.Regards Terry

That's not what I meant at all. I meant that IMO, the vocals are too up front on this song. I can't hear the arrangement enough. Nothing wrong with the singing at all, just can't hear the arrangement enough. Then again, what do I know?

On the first ( and maybe second ..lol ) listen, I kind of lost the abilities of what the Midjay could do as well, only because Donny's vocal is so smoothe and good on it, that it kind of commands my attention. great sounding song DNJ.

I listened a few more times and it simply adds to the desire for me to try out the SD1 and now the Midjay. I regret that I could not make it down there yesterday to see the Ketron stuff in action.

Someone here in SZ stated that a good vocalist has to spell the words clearly, like Frank Sinatra did.

Donny, you did just that, and I could understand the lyrics, almost first time. Very good voice, I like it!

You could also publish the song in 96 or 128 Kbits/ 44,1KHz, it would have been much better. The quality was a little low now and I could hear some compression artifacts, especially with the reverb in the end of vocal phrases, containing "esses"

Thanx everyone for listening......it was far from perfect but as a first time one shot deal I thought it was ok, & of course it can always be better when done right. I wanted to show the great potential of the all inclusive Midjay.

Take Care......I got a gig to play...

Very nice dnj, heck of a vocal there.

Was this a straight-up Ketron style? Darn it, but I know where they got that intro from - it's virtually a straight copy of the intro to Ray Charles' recording of 'Ruby'.
