"Honky Tonk" is one of those songs I used to play a lot that eventually slipped out of my play list. Then, the other night I had a request for it. For the life of me I could not remember all the cool riffs in the Bill Doggett hit...so I scoured for midis to get re-acquainted with them.

Then, just for the heck of it I looked up Bill Doggett's biography and was shocked to learn several things...not the least of which is that his contribution to the song is barely audible. He didn't play sax or guitar (the lead instruments in the song). He played a Hammond in the background.

If you are a Bill Doggett or Honky Tonk fan, take a look at this. It is just a short but info-packed history of the man and the song.

Honky Tonk Part 1 and Honky Tonk Part 2... I remember it well and played it often. In fact, I'm sure I have the 45 buried somewhere in my collection. Now if that doesn't age me!
