If "the perfect" kb already was here, we still would like to try out and explore new things, and hopefully there will be lot's of new kb's in the future too. Perfect for one of us, is not perfect for the other, so I guess we'll carry on as usual. Maybe someday UD praise a Technics, and I go for a Yamaha, would'nt that be quite a topic? And maybe Scott return from Namm with a new Kawai or Casio as the new baby.... Life is wonderful, but I still miss my old fashion turntable in this modern world. GJ

Hey Guys,
For me, this lifelong pursuit called music or performing needs to have it's fun times. I'm sure you guys who perform for a living enjoy what you're doing, but there are plenty of days you're working hard to keep your commitments and get through the sets. But just like going to a football game, or hockey game or the theater, this event is great entertainment. A chance to step back and really be amazed at this music industry we are all apart of. Sure, you'll see stuff you could never afford, but hey, it's like the boat show and the 100' yacht you'll never own....still fun to look at. The secret is like Scott said, make what you have work for you. Be content and express yourself and use your God given ability. There will never be another you (In my case, that's a good thing!!) Then again, there will be stuff that will spark your imagination and help you in some way or another. Like being a kid at Christmas. remeber the line from Batman I when the joker muses, "Gad, those wonderful toys" as he is amazed at all of Batmans gizmos (you can tell my IQ here can't you). Well that about wraps up my view towards NAMM. Scott, I envy you being able to go and I hope it's everything you expect and more. Now, next year, how do I get in???? gad.....those wonderful toys.........

pc archetecture and touch screens would loose me right quick. My 9k will stay right where it is. I bought a new guitar this week, so my mind is more in an "acoustic" frame. The digital stuff will take a back seat till the new thrill is gone. For all you "pickers" out there - it's a Taylor 615ce - Jumbo body, Curly Maple sides & back, Spruce top, gold hardware, cutaway and the acoustic blender piccup from Fishman - it's a dream to play. I did two sets on it Tuesday night, and I was having a ball. We played a little Stump the band with Beatles, and had a blast. I do well at those games cuz I know the first few bars of every song ever made, and if I'm not sure, I make them think I do ! ( you know me - smoke & mirrors to the end !) I will take ANY request - even if I steal the melody from another song and make up the words. It creates a feeling of goodwill, and makes the requester happy that I tried. Works EVERY time..... try it.

The touchscreen is not really a matter if a manufacturer would implement it in a good way, and not like Roland did. Roland threw away all the buttons and thought that we would like a touch screen. It's indeed quite innovative, but keep the buttons next time, I don't like going through 3 pages, to set a general setting. But a touchscreen is fine to me, as long as it well used. And if I have to pay $3000+ for an arranger one day, I'm quite curious then what it will be. Then I expect a lot of it. Because an arranger looks inside just like a computer. Mainboard, power supply, monitor etc. So you're paying a lot then for the software (OS, styles, development and more.) Anyway, still enjoying the VA-7 here, no problems when live Sander [This message has been edited by Sander (edited 01-10-2002).]

Thanks for the bad news, George Actually, I can see where Yamaha might have little incentive to introduce a new high-end arranger. The 9000Pro is still the cream of the crop--with no serious competition in the marketplace (however good the SD1 and VA76 may be). It is too soon to introduce a 10,000Pro. If Yamaha introduces a PSR10,000 to replace the PSR9000, this would negatively impact the 9000Pro sales. Also, many of our Professionals have gravitated toward the PSR2000. If they are happy with that keyboard, who is going to buy the 10000 which might be twice as expensive and twice as heavy? I am not critical of those who find happiness in a mid-range keyboard, but it does not bode well for the future of the high end. Still, I hope Yamaha extends itself in the Pro arranger arena, giving serious attention to the weight issue. Few solo performers want to haul around a 45lb keyboard. Hopefully, the GEMeSys introduction is still on for NAMM.

Gentlemen: For someone who made a living playing a 7 string acoustic for the last 35 years, this guitar subject certainly makes me very "melancolic", since two years ago, after going thru carpal tunel syndrome surgery in my left hand, I decided to make the transition to K/B arrangers and keep my left hand "healthy". I would be lying if I told you that I am not elated with the move. Working 95% of the time as a single, playing the guitar was just plain hard work compared to just pressing keysand butons now. Also the quality and variety of sounds is there when you need it, not to mention other niceties like vocal harmony, programmability, etc... As Uncle Dave has mentioned, playing the "old" acoustic at home can provide you with a lot of relaxation and pleasures never felt when I used to make a living with it. Expensive or not I guess by now you guys can tell that I've become a "Digital" sicko..... after all, how can you beat the sound of that "nylon acoustic" from the PSR2000! Regards Mario Oh! I forgot, I just placed an order for a 9k. C'mon, lets here it for the band! ... God! I am truly sick!
