Just wondering, GM Genesys, Yamaha PSR 10000, Technics 7000. What if they are all there but $3000+ (USD)...
Will it really affect most of us? Will most of us go and buy the new keyboard or will it just spur the "wish list" again.
I like reading this forum because most of you are likely better than I, and I have been waiting for a great deal on a Korg PA or just buy the Yamaha PSR 2000.
I was just wondering if a majority of you will go out a buy the new boards so that when I finally get my "off-broadway" model I will have to review all the old lists for information, instead of joining the mix.
Cheers for making music.

We got to remember to keep reminding ourselves that's it's NOT as much the equipment we use, but 'how' we utilize what we have. Some of the best music with creativity & soul comes from people playing older model keyboards. Afterall, most real musicians aren't rich, but hey, I guess we can all still dream . . . hmmm, let's see, which will it be next? The KN7000, PSR10K, or?

There will never be ..A Perfect Arranger! the musical instrument industry will always omit something that would give it that 'Perfect' status, we are are all victims of clever marketing and constantly evolving technology.
Unfortunately being a keyboard player is a costly business as we like to be up to date whereas Guitarist's, Bassist's , Drummers, wind players are happy to stick with the same instrument almost indefinately.

If "the perfect" kb already was here, we still
would like to try out and explore new things,
and hopefully there will be lot's of new kb's
in the future too.
Perfect for one of us, is not perfect for the
other, so I guess we'll carry on as usual.
Maybe someday UD praise a Technics, and I go
for a Yamaha, would'nt that be quite a topic?
And maybe Scott return from Namm with a new
Kawai or Casio as the new baby....
Life is wonderful, but I still miss my old
fashion turntable in this modern world.

Hey Guys,

For me, this lifelong pursuit called music or performing needs to have it's fun times. I'm sure you guys who perform for a living enjoy what you're doing, but there are plenty of days you're working hard to keep your commitments and get through the sets. But just like going to a football game, or hockey game or the theater, this event is great entertainment. A chance to step back and really be amazed at this music industry we are all apart of. Sure, you'll see stuff you could never afford, but hey, it's like the boat show and the 100' yacht you'll never own....still fun to look at. The secret is like Scott said, make what you have work for you. Be content and express yourself and use your God given ability. There will never be another you (In my case, that's a good thing!!) Then again, there will be stuff that will spark your imagination and help you in some way or another. Like being a kid at Christmas. remeber the line from Batman I when the joker muses, "Gad, those wonderful toys" as he is amazed at all of Batmans gizmos (you can tell my IQ here can't you). Well that about wraps up my view towards NAMM. Scott, I envy you being able to go and I hope it's everything you expect and more. Now, next year, how do I get in???? gad.....those wonderful toys.........

All you need is an invitation. Since it is a trade show, you'll have to tag along with someone in the industry. Buddy up with a music store owner, and see if they take you!

Thanks guys, its comforting to know that when I get my arranger and can join more discussions that there will be enough activity on what will probably be sensibly priced PSR 2000. I admit that I agree with both Scott and Uncle Dave. We do must focus on the music.... but sure wish they get it right. Instead of keep buying though, I just keep waiting. This is the last NAMM show without an arranger.
You'll hear back from me, mark my words... I'll be back (with an arranger).

Guess what it seems that the PSR 9000 Pro is a discontinued item! SO... Yamaha has a new board coming out. Inside scoop, CDRW, CPU, Touch screen, I'm drooling already. By the way I have just joined the forum, although I have been a reader of your group messages for some time.

SynthMeister,
WAIT ! Exactly 'Where' did you get your information that the 9000pro is being discontinued now? I'm confused because you first say 'it seems that the 9000pro is a discontinued item' but then say that you have an 'inside scoop'. Is this just an assumption or actually a reliable source? This certainly will be BIG news to most of us here. especially since the 9000pro has only been out for a year. And how about the PSR9000 which is even older than the 9000pro? I'll be attending NAMM next week so if what you're saying really is true, could that mean that Yamaha has a BIG PSR10K surprise in store for us NEXT week?! Ok, I hope you're not just 'teasing' just to get everyone excited for nothing.
Welcome to the forum. - Scott

pc archetecture and touch screens would loose me right quick. My 9k will stay right where it is.
I bought a new guitar this week, so my mind is more in an "acoustic" frame. The digital stuff will take a back seat till the new thrill is gone. For all you "pickers" out there - it's a Taylor 615ce - Jumbo body, Curly Maple sides & back, Spruce top, gold hardware, cutaway and the acoustic blender piccup from Fishman - it's a dream to play. I did two sets on it Tuesday night, and I was having a ball. We played a little Stump the band with Beatles, and had a blast.
I do well at those games cuz I know the first few bars of every song ever made, and if I'm not sure, I make them think I do !
( you know me - smoke & mirrors to the end !)
I will take ANY request - even if I steal the melody from another song and make up the words. It creates a feeling of goodwill, and makes the requester happy that I tried. Works EVERY time..... try it.

Uncle Dave,
I can relate to the acoustic. I too am mainly a guitar player. Of course aren't most arranger fans guitar players? Wouldn't a real keyboard player go for a Steinway or Baldwin?

Just teasing, I dont want to start that one.

As a guitar player, the arranger is a great great system. I especially like the PA 80, it has 2 inputs and offers a decent sound.

Good going with the Taylor. I have a 83' Martin Re-issue D28 that is very versatile in playability. It gets played nearly every day.

Cheers

I play keyboard to pay the rent, but I play the guitar for ME! I've played since age 6, and it's like an old friend.

Just curious Dave, what price did you shell for that Taylor? After looking for a new acoustic I had to back off from that deep price of a Taylor (cutaway w/electronics). The action was sublime though. These old hans are starting to complain (loudly) at the action on my Seagull S6+CW. It sounds really nice live and recorded (w/elec or acoustically) especially for the price, hand made in N. America, solid top and back, BUT it can't compare to the feel of a Taylor. I still may be in the market for a new guit.

The touchscreen is not really a matter if a manufacturer would implement it in a good way, and not like Roland did. Roland threw away all the buttons and thought that we would like a touch screen. It's indeed quite innovative, but keep the buttons next time, I don't like going through 3 pages, to set a general setting. But a touchscreen is fine to me, as long as it well used.

And if I have to pay $3000+ for an arranger one day, I'm quite curious then what it will be. Then I expect a lot of it. Because an arranger looks inside just like a computer. Mainboard, power supply, monitor etc. So you're paying a lot then for the software (OS, styles, development and more.)

Anyway, still enjoying the VA-7 here, no problems when live

Sander

My Taylor listed at $3150, but I traded in my Hammond organ and a few other ditties to come up with a net cost of around $1600-1700.
I have always been able to buy at, or very near wholesale prices because of my connections, and a "pro" consideration from the other dealers. I sell so much stuff that it pays the dealer to sell it to me cheap - I'll be back for something else very quickly. I rarely have an instrument that runs out of warrentee...at least digital stuff. I keep winds and strings and the like.
BTW - We used to sell the Seagull line ( out of Canada) very nice stuff for the money. Mostly cedar tops, if I remember, and satin finishes.

I've been eyeing a mid level electric/acoustic for myself....I'm looking at Martin and Takamine....in the 500-700 dollar range, is there a better brand you'd recommend? On a level from 1-10 with 10 being a pro...I'm a 4....all basic chords, good fingerpicking...been years since I picked one up....using in the studio and to play out.....man..we need a guitar forum...sorry about this Tgalf...we're out in left field again..B2

Hey guys,
My sources at Yamaha say no new pro keyboards will be shown at NAMM next week. Perhaps in June they will show the next generation pro arranger. I think I have already posted that there are only three new Yamaha arranger keyboards coming out at NAMM. A low priced 88 key model (not hammer weighted, just light weight) and two new lower priced 76 key models. One to replace the current PSRGX76 and one a little higher up. At the best, Yamaha might have a prototype of the next generation up in a hotel room somewhere for Yamaha to decide who could view a new model if it is available as a prototype. I've been invited up into these rooms during the past years as a "guest" of Yamaha to give them some of my thoughts while things can still be changed before final production begins. However, I've heard nothing about them showing anything like this next week.

I know how appealing guitars are. As much as I love keyboards, the sound and feel of electric or acoustic guitar can't be beat. I play bass as well and recently picked up an Ibanez 5-string with active electronics plus a Fender Jazz Bass Special fretless which has had me slapping and plucking again lately.

As for Takamine and Martin guitars in the $500-$700 price range I'd definately recommend looking at Takamine. You'll get a great Takamine in that price range but the cheap Martins I've seen really aren't worth looking and don't compare. Maybe Martin have changed their product line and someone will prove me wrong. But all I know is I tried some cheap Martins and ended up buying a Takamine instead.

Thanks for the bad news, George

Actually, I can see where Yamaha might have little incentive to introduce a new high-end arranger. The 9000Pro is still the cream of the crop--with no serious competition in the marketplace (however good the SD1 and VA76 may be). It is too soon to introduce a 10,000Pro. If Yamaha introduces a PSR10,000 to replace the PSR9000, this would negatively impact the 9000Pro sales. Also, many of our Professionals have gravitated toward the PSR2000. If they are happy with that keyboard, who is going to buy the 10000 which might be twice as expensive and twice as heavy? I am not critical of those who find happiness in a mid-range keyboard, but it does not bode well for the future of the high end. Still, I hope Yamaha extends itself in the Pro arranger arena, giving serious attention to the weight issue. Few solo performers want to haul around a 45lb keyboard. Hopefully, the GEMeSys introduction is still on for NAMM.

Gentlemen:
For someone who made a living playing a 7 string acoustic for the last 35 years, this guitar subject certainly makes me very "melancolic", since two years ago, after going thru carpal tunel syndrome surgery in my left hand, I decided to make the transition to K/B arrangers and keep my left hand "healthy". I would be lying if I told you that I am not elated with the move. Working 95% of the time as a single, playing the guitar was just plain hard work compared to just pressing keysand butons now. Also the quality and variety of sounds is there when you need it, not to mention other niceties like vocal harmony, programmability, etc... As Uncle Dave has mentioned, playing the "old" acoustic at home can provide you with a lot of relaxation and pleasures never felt when I used to make a living with it. Expensive or not I guess by now you guys can tell that I've become a "Digital" sicko..... after all, how can you beat the sound of that "nylon acoustic" from the PSR2000!
Regards
Mario
Oh! I forgot, I just placed an order for a 9k. C'mon, lets here it for the band! ... God! I am truly sick!

Mario - two things.....
1) I had Carpul Tunnel, and with the aid of Chiropractic (2 yrs or so) it is totally GONE - no surgury, no follow ups, no reoccurences.

2) The arranger is a PERFECT way for you to ease the guitar back into your shows - sequence some backing trax, and play the guitar as needed....or until it hurts. I use a Parker Fly on most gigs because it's really narrow, very light (under 5 lbs!!) and has a true acoustic piccup under the bridge. For a solid body guitar - it sounds very acoustic through a PA system.
(At $2000, it AIN'T cheap, but it's easier than squeezing an acoustic all night !)
