I bought a new guitar this week, so my mind is more in an "acoustic" frame. The digital stuff will take a back seat till the new thrill is gone. For all you "pickers" out there - it's a Taylor 615ce - Jumbo body, Curly Maple sides & back, Spruce top, gold hardware, cutaway and the acoustic blender piccup from Fishman - it's a dream to play. I did two sets on it Tuesday night, and I was having a ball. We played a little Stump the band with Beatles, and had a blast.
I do well at those games cuz I know the first few bars of every song ever made, and if I'm not sure, I make them think I do !
( you know me - smoke & mirrors to the end !)
I will take ANY request - even if I steal the melody from another song and make up the words. It creates a feeling of goodwill, and makes the requester happy that I tried. Works EVERY time..... try it.

I can relate to the acoustic. I too am mainly a guitar player. Of course aren't most arranger fans guitar players? Wouldn't a real keyboard player go for a Steinway or Baldwin?

Just teasing, I dont want to start that one.

As a guitar player, the arranger is a great great system. I especially like the PA 80, it has 2 inputs and offers a decent sound.

Good going with the Taylor. I have a 83' Martin Re-issue D28 that is very versatile in playability. It gets played nearly every day.

Just curious Dave, what price did you shell for that Taylor? After looking for a new acoustic I had to back off from that deep price of a Taylor (cutaway w/electronics). The action was sublime though. These old hans are starting to complain (loudly) at the action on my Seagull S6+CW. It sounds really nice live and recorded (w/elec or acoustically) especially for the price, hand made in N. America, solid top and back, BUT it can't compare to the feel of a Taylor. I still may be in the market for a new guit.

Daves Taylor Guitar is pure heaven to play. The neck is Superb and the Sound is Euphoric.

The touchscreen is not really a matter if a manufacturer would implement it in a good way, and not like Roland did. Roland threw away all the buttons and thought that we would like a touch screen. It's indeed quite innovative, but keep the buttons next time, I don't like going through 3 pages, to set a general setting. But a touchscreen is fine to me, as long as it well used.

And if I have to pay $3000+ for an arranger one day, I'm quite curious then what it will be. Then I expect a lot of it. Because an arranger looks inside just like a computer. Mainboard, power supply, monitor etc. So you're paying a lot then for the software (OS, styles, development and more.)

Anyway, still enjoying the VA-7 here, no problems when live

My Taylor listed at $3150, but I traded in my Hammond organ and a few other ditties to come up with a net cost of around $1600-1700.
I have always been able to buy at, or very near wholesale prices because of my connections, and a "pro" consideration from the other dealers. I sell so much stuff that it pays the dealer to sell it to me cheap - I'll be back for something else very quickly. I rarely have an instrument that runs out of warrentee...at least digital stuff. I keep winds and strings and the like.
BTW - We used to sell the Seagull line ( out of Canada) very nice stuff for the money. Mostly cedar tops, if I remember, and satin finishes.

I've been eyeing a mid level electric/acoustic for myself....I'm looking at Martin and Takamine....in the 500-700 dollar range, is there a better brand you'd recommend? On a level from 1-10 with 10 being a pro...I'm a 4....all basic chords, good fingerpicking...been years since I picked one up....using in the studio and to play out.....man..we need a guitar forum...sorry about this Tgalf...we're out in left field again..B2

My sources at Yamaha say no new pro keyboards will be shown at NAMM next week. Perhaps in June they will show the next generation pro arranger. I think I have already posted that there are only three new Yamaha arranger keyboards coming out at NAMM. A low priced 88 key model (not hammer weighted, just light weight) and two new lower priced 76 key models. One to replace the current PSRGX76 and one a little higher up. At the best, Yamaha might have a prototype of the next generation up in a hotel room somewhere for Yamaha to decide who could view a new model if it is available as a prototype. I've been invited up into these rooms during the past years as a "guest" of Yamaha to give them some of my thoughts while things can still be changed before final production begins. However, I've heard nothing about them showing anything like this next week.
