Hi ... I'm not sure if this is the best place to address this but I dont know a better catagory where to place ... so here goes ...

I'm looking to get a pair of powered speakers to use at larger venues and would like your experience and expertise as to which are the best quality to go for ... preferably 15" speakers to get a fuller sound and more bass and power, but at least 12" (or maybe there's not much difference ... please advise on this also:-)

JBL
EV (sxa100 ...i think they are 12" but supposed to be good quality)
Mackie
DB
RCF
DAS

or perhaps you have another make which are better ... I appreciate and am open to any ideas...

Thanks!
cyp,

You have come to the right place. Like you, I have been one of those who thought that 15" speakers were necessary for full sound. What I learned here is that there has been a revolution in the way speakers do their job. The full sound I want can now be delivered by much smaller speakers.

Don't take my word for it. Use the search feature and look up the previous discussions of "Logitech" "Z-2200" "Z-5500" and "Bose PAS"

By all measn keep an open mind and get back to us after you have made your decision.

As has been mentioned, go to www.barbetta.com
I have a pair of their Sona SE-41's (around $1500) and they are awesome in their performance. I have played in front of 500+ people using a 9000Pro and never even drove them near max. They put out 450 watts each. Take a good look at them before you make your final decision.

Our band uses a Mackie setup with (2) SRM450's and two Sub-Woofers. The sound is absolutely incredible. Clear, full range, and plenty of headroom in all venues.

Thanks folks for pitching in your preferences ... I think I need to actually here them out ... its a tough decision to make, especially in those price brackets ... anyone in London UK that knows of a store which has a large selection to choose from? Are those 'barbettas' available here in the UK?

c'mon ... anyone else willing to share their preferences and experience?

Thanks,
Izzy

Hi Izzy,

Have you been to Denmark Street in the West End. It's known for its music shops. It's sort of near Soho.

I think it's nick name is tin pan alley Just do a search on Denmark Street in Google and you'll see it.

Hope this helps.

David.

Thanks David,

'been there, done that' but find the problem being that each store has its own models and to compare with other models in a different store makes it difficult to decide, you really need to be able to hear them next to eachother if you know what I mean ...

I have owned almost everything, including JBL powered Eons, unpowered Peaveys of all sizes, Logitech Z2200s and many others.
I now have Barbettas, which were by far the best of all the others, and light-weight to boot. I played outdoors for 400 people with them.
Then I bought the Bose PAS, and it blows even the Barbettas away. Amazing power, clarity and distribution. You won't need monitors, and you won't need multiple speakers.
