Tony,

The PSR-3000 will permit the use of a 128-megabite 3.3-volt Smart Media card, which is about the thickness of a piece of thick paper. It's a great storage device that can stay in the keyboard just like a hard drive and access time is nearly instantaneous.

It can also utilize various storage devices that can be attached to the USB 1.0 port on the back of the keyboard. These include a USB floppy disk, some USB hard drives, USB Thumb Drive, Pen Drive, Jump Drive, and others. It does not use compact flash cards, and similar storage devices unless they are interfaced with a USB to device reader.

You can purchase a Smart Media card for $29 at some sites. A few sites offered 128 meg Lexar Jump Drives for about $39 and 256 meg drives for $49. A 128 megabite drive is equivelent to having 88 floppy disks in additional storage capacity. That is in addition to the keyboard's onboard storage, which is about twice that of your PSR-2100.

Good Luck,

Gary

Tony,

Amazon.com is having a sale on the Viking SmartMedia Card. This is 128MB, 3.3volt.
This is the right type of your PSR-3000 and the maximum capacity it supports.

After the $10 rebate, your price is $21.69

Act fast! I ordered one yesterday.

pcrightnow.com has 128mb flash drives for $14.99.
I just received two and they work fine in my
3000. I have ordered a total of eight barebone computers from them and all have worked great.

Tony,

The largest Smart Media card the keyboard can handle is 128 megs. It can handle any size USB drive, but keep in mind the larger the drive, the longer the access time. Besides, you could store thousands of midi files on a single 256 meg thumb drive.

The largest Smart Media made is 128mb. I use the Smart Media for most storage on the keyboard, and I use the USB for transferring files. The one advantage of the Smart Media is that you never have to take the chip out of the keyboard - even when you put it in a gig bag.

Larry is right. The largest SM card made is 128 megs, and as he attested, you don't have to remove it from the keyboard. Mine stays in place, and it's a long way from being filled to capacity.

If you want to get a SmartMedia card, now is the time. These are being phased out and in a couple of years they will be as rare as a hen’s teeth.

Yamaha did us a disservice by deciding to embrace SmartMedia. Why would you want to be limited to 128MB when SD media has become so common and affordable with 1 and 2GB capacity cards?

And why on earth would they decide to add a 1.4MB floppy drive on their expensive state of the art Clavinovas? If at all, why not just add a CDROM drive? Who in the world uses floppies?

Ahh… I should stop ranting…

Tapas..because now the next model will have it and you'll have to sell your old unit and buy a new one .....and then that one will be void of something we want.......
its a vicous endless cycle

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ rules the world !

Dnj,

Right on my friend. You have decoded the secret recipe of the Yamaha Devil! Let me elaborate. Yamaha never gives the customer 100%. They make the next model just enticing enough to make you buy and priced just a fraction lower than the competing brand. But they never give you all you want to keep you happy for several years.

Consider their home audio product line. First, I bought the Yamaha DSP-A2070 multichannel preamp surround sound processor. It was a spectacular design with some ground breaking surround effects. The only problem was that it did not have a single digital input. Then they came up with the DSP-A1 with all the optical and coaxial digital inputs. Again, a fantastic product. I bought it. But, it lacked the component video switching inputs. They added this feature on their current flagship – the RX-Z9.

I am thinking of getting this, but I am hesitant. I have a feeling they will come up with a newer model that has the HDMI inputs that I really need.

Isn’t this stupid? Now wouldn’t it be a better design to make it modular? You need extra digital inputs? Fine, swap out a card. You need component video inputs, replace another card. You need HDMI audio/video connectors – just exchange another card. Why on earth do we have to throw away all our investment and start from scratch?
