The SonicCell looks interesting; they apparently started with the concept introduced by Ketron with the Midjay, but took it to another level: much better user interface and operative system, better sounds, better looks... the Midjay still has an edge thanks to the hard disk recording and the arranger section, but I am willing to bet that the SonicCell sales with outnumber the Midjay... let's say 10 to 1?

According to Roland, all you need is a SonicCell and a keyboard (or a guitar, or a saxophone...)
You place all of your backing tracks inside the little box and you are done: no need for a laptop either... and the price should be under 1000 dollars.

If it can run the mike with effects, a guitar with effects, .wav playback AND act as a module all at the same time (OMB software as front end), this could be an inexpensive Midjay....

I think I'm gonna order early (I heard Oct. delivery). I just bought an Alesis I/O26 as a computer backup for my Akai DPS24 so I may have some redundancy here for recording. Sounds like a winner to me, especially at that price. Now if only someone came out with a pill for gear lust. I'd buy Capt. Russ a complimentary dose .

Being able to have the additional sounds to play , and the Audio playback of wav files and MP3's..makes it very interesting to me..

One thing that has not been mentioned...I wonder if the Sonic Cell reads lyrics embedded in SMF's?

The SonicCell is the next one on my list This model has really got me excited. Hope Roland doesn't screw with the release date. I heard around and about October too.

It would have been great if they added a transpose for audio, like Dom's MediaStation..

I also have this transpose feature in KaraWin Pro software on my laptop...

Maybe they will surprise us and add it before shipping..

With the mic/effects feature this appears to be a great piece for non playing singers that perform with a laptop and carry added gear like mixer and effects..Although there is one draw back..the visibility the laptop offers is better for these performers..

The display is really Tiny .....
thats stinks for stage use......especially scrolling thru files in real time maybe sonic cell 2 will be improved.

The SonicCell apparently has all the waveforms from the Fantom X plus new ones, including the Steinway piano from the RD700SX, FP7, FP4, SRX-11.

Darn, no, not yet. I was hoping to be the first to be able to proclaim the superiority of yet another ROLAND product . BTW, if you think the Sonic Cell is going to get you any closer to that Photographer/Model, fugediboutit.

When going through the manual, I noticed a lot of Fantom presets, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to use Roland's collection of XV-5080 presets that were ported over to the Fantom series. I actually preferred many of these sounds over the stock Fantom stuff, though it sounds like the SonicCell presets have been tweaked further and may prove to be more useful.
