Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree... But this is my daily forum and was hoping to get some advice on my new CD I'm working on.. It's in the beggining stages... It's called... "Behind the brick wall" Last time I was sure what I wanted... This time around I'd like your advice to make the songs better... If you have the time... Also , this sort of stuff is not everyones cup of tea... understood... A little advise.. I'm panning stuff left and right and what not... (If you like, A you suck would at least be a bit of feedback).
This is just a demo... Cause this is not the final cut... I've got about 4 in the bucket... This is the furthest along... Hey and it actual feels like I have a drummer now... (thanks to mike, Here is the right link http://www.chipos.com/beachbum/IfOnly.mp3
Thanks...
DJ

Hey Tony and all,

The Beach is posting on an Apache web server which can be case-sensitive with the URL's. Try this:

Interesting stuff DJ, but then I've always been entertained by your vocals. Sounds like the guitar work could use a little more polishing. The notes sound right but it sounds like you're forcing the solos, they are not flowing. Keep practicing and the technical stuff will get easier.

It's good to hear some new music again.

Thanks!

mike

Thanks Mike That's the link... http://www.chipos.com/beachbum/IfOnly.mp3
It's been a really bad week for me ... With the dog dying and all... I don't have children... But I feel I just lost one... Which of course is already made into a song and will probably be the strongest of the bunch... It's not ready yet... I agree the guitar bounces here and their... I've got a twelve string going panned left all the way and a Spanish panned right all the way... Will have to re-doe the guitar work.. However, the drums are much better as I've learned to change settings and use breaks... and master that dastardly OTS button...
Thanks Mike, I will re-do the guitars and smooth it out... Hopefully...
DJ

DJ,
I love the lyric. Really cool...

It's truth or Dare, Why are you so scared?

and,

I learned from life, I told my lies

and,

If we could read each others minds we'd no longer be so blind, but the truth would take it's toll.

...have to be my favourite lines. Powerful, intelligent lyrics. I'm envious.

As for the guitar, I do agree that it sounds a little 'hesitant' in places. The panning sounds fine to me BUT I am listening through headphones as it is late here (3am). I'm on another of my insomnia kicks so it's a pot of tea a bar of chocolate and your song

Sorry to hear about your Dog DJ. I don't know what I would do if I lost my dog. She is a star and like you say they do become family.
Best to you
Tony

Thanks Tony...
I really wasn't planning on posting a tune... I think I did it to get my mind off of other thing... However, You’re right... I'm not a musician... Never claimed to be one... My 2000 allows me to compose and write lyrics, which is my thing... I do everything in real time. Record the basic then add on the next track and so forth... Can take many hours to do it all and not screw it up... If you like the lyrics on this one wait till next one.. I assure you this new CD will steer clear of weddings and happy joyous events... Oh, As for lyrics I think my favorite verse was...

Why's black bad and white is good
Why color plays its way in truth
To mingle all the colors in
To blame one color on a sin..

I thought that could be taken all kinds of ways

Thanks my friend,
DJ

I think your vocals are very good in this cut and nice composition. As has been discussed already.....the guitars to me detract rather than add to the cut. My thoughts would be to just use the auto accmp. and the instruments that come along with it and or use non solo type instruments in place of solo one. Meaning use things like synth pads etc, that paint a broader backround sound rather than solo lead type sounds.

Your mixes keep sounding better and better all the time.

Thanks for the listen Terry...
Good suggestions. Changing the leads I'll do, but keep the guitars during the verse..

Thanks again,
DJ

You really impressed me with your VOCALS not that it's not played well on your keyboard, but you have outstanding vocals and very well controlled on the higher notes, well done the guitar is ok all you have to do is let it flow but it sounds ok, perhaps it's easier said than done but practice make perfection.

Sorry to hear about your dog I know how preciouse a dog can be, I lost mine some years back and still miss the love he gave me, but like all, we have a borrowed life, and must live it to our best, when the time comes we have to move too, to the next step of life.

Tony.

Thanks Ziggy,
I did do one thing different this time around on the vocals. I usually just run the treble up a bit, and add a touch of reverb. However, this tends to make the vocal to harsh in some folks minds. I’ve experimented in the past with some echo vocal sounds but the wife complains she can’t hear the words… I think I’ve come out with a nicer and less harsh effect… Do the treble up, add a bit of rev… then use an effect from cool edit which compresses the vocal a bit and gives me more of a studio sound… Which is much less harsh…
As for your last words… True indeed..

Thanks again,
DJ

First of all I'm going to be a little timid commenting re: your song because I'm fairly new to the forum and I don't want to sound too harsh ... however, here goes !!

I pretty much agree with the aforementioned comments ... but I did want to say I really enjoy the general composition of the song and your voice as well. I also think that the guitar detracts from the song .. at least the way it is used. Possibly changing it for a higher range in tone might work better --- possibly using more of a classic rock guitar during a break or something. You don't want to overshadow your voice.

I just don't care for the "low" tone of the guitar that is used. Also, I don't feel the articulation on your guitar makes it a realistic enough guitar - it's not sharp enough. Somebody says it "lags" - I think it needs to be crisper (Tony W. being a guitar man - you might ask him).

Again though - I liked the vocal and the words.

Sorry about your dog. The last two dogs I've had - I ended up having to put them down and as much as I loved them (and love dogs) I will not have another because it hurts too much to lose them. Hope you will have as many good memories of your "friend" as I have mine.

Welcome to the forum. Not harsh at all got some re-doing to do and I appreciated everyone’s help. As far as harsh goes. That was nothing... Wait till you post something that bad... They'll rip you a new one here..
Oh, as for the Dogs.. Well 12 years of unconditional, is worth it.
