Obviously you get a lot more voices on the Tyros than the 2100, but also you get twice the polyphony, aftertouch sensitivity, faster CPU's, BETTER and more powerful voices using 8 layers of samples, more DSP's, individual outputs (4) with routing, colour LCD hi-res plus video output, Harddisk interface with fast USB connectivity, upgradeable OS (though maybe possible on 2100?), bigger "spread out" control panel ergonomics, sexy looks, 32 midi channels (2 midi outs, 2 midi in's), 3 pedal inputs and MFC10 support............

The bottom line is that 99.9% of the folks on the dance floor cannot hear all of those wonderful features that you paid so dearly for. All they want is to be entertained, and if you can keep the dance floor filled with people that are having a grea time, and they like what they're hearing, the polyphony, aftertouch sensitivity, faster CPU's, video output, Harddisk interface with fast USB connectivity, upgradeable OS and all those other features are IMHO just window dressing.

If you're an entertainer, and can get two years of use out of your keyboard, you've made it pay for itself and can now think about buying a new one. Two years from now, Yamaha will likely be coming out with a PSR-2300 or 2400 that will have all the features found in today's Tyros. Today's Tyros will, by that time, be replaced with a new and exciting board that will sell for a couple hundred bucks more and have a larger everthing. Who knows, they may even come out with a board that uses Super Twist LCD technology so you can see the damned screen in sunlight. NAH!

Cheers,

Gary

Oh Bebop, you ought to know logic is not one of the strong points here. This is the place where one sits on the butt with keyboard under the fingers and exercises the tongue. Music to some ears!

Bebop,
I went from 9000 to 2000 (with a PA80 in between). I wouldn't go back to the 9000 at all. I enjoy the lighter weight and many of the features of the 2000. Of course there are some things I miss that the 9000 offered, but not enough to go back to it.

Don't forget that if you wish to have additional storage, the Ukranian made HDM2 is an excellent choice at $200. You can store over 100 floppy-sized banks inside your keyboard. It has made my life so much easier.

svpworld,

Thanks for the reply, forget other features, what about the sounds and styles and only those? Other than Mega voices, is 2100 and Tyros identical?
