Thank you all for your suggestions. The multipads on the PSR540 does have some strumming types. I will also try Simmonds suggestion.

I Use "Cakewalk". The are some "CAL" scripts out there which attempt to turn block chords into "strummed "chords. I think I got them off the cakewalk web site. If anyones stuck send me an e-mail and I'll send you my stuff. The effect is "OK" rather than "gosh" (i.e. flamenco guitarist will not be fooled) but for backing tracks it can be effective. Subtlety is eveything!
