Hello friends,

After so many philosophical matters had been discussed, I decided to upload another one of my original compositions. It is performed on my DGX-305.

This time I'd like to present to your attention my very first song (voice + lyrics) which is also my first try to write a poem in English. I admit my further tries were alot better.

To your fortune, I won't be singing. It's only the instrumental part. If you like to perform this song for your pleasure, please feel free to download the sheet music and the lyrics sheet.

Any comments on the music and the poem are well apreciated.

Regards,
George

When The Sun Has Fallen Asleep

P.S. You may notice that the MP3 is in D major whereas the sheet music is in C. That's because I decided to raise the tonality by one tone after I'd composed the song.

Georgi: Very nice piece. I enjoyed how you blended different instruments in and out through out the piece to complement the piano part.

You really took full advantage of the capabilities of the DGX-305. Even more so then I have heard of some others with much more sophisticated equipment.

Thanks for sharing your music.

Loved the song George, very nice relaxed playing. The choice of sounds were good, especially the way you brought them in throughout.

From TheFreeDictionary

Noun 1. prosody - the patterns of stress and intonation in a language

2. prosody - (prosody) a system of versification

3. prosody - the study of poetic meter and the art of versification

never heard that word. Anyway, prosody wasn't my goal. I just wanted to come up with some lyrics to this melody and I took me about one month to complete them. As I said it was my first try to compose a song. Its first performance was a total crash.

Yeah, I really like that I found out how to fade out the soprano sax. As you probably know, the DGX-305 doesnot have aftertouch. I just turn down the channel volume.

Thanks for your comments.

Regards,
George

Hi George,
another lovely piece of music.

Just wondering what you would call the style of music that you compose??

best wishes

Hi Rikki,

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I can't call this style 'contemporary classical music' because any music becomes classical no erlier than 50 years after it has been composed. When I performed this song for the first time I was told it recollected of Andrew Lloyd Webber, though Webber, whose music I love, never use such drastic change in tonality (D major - Bb major)

Once I was asked by a friend why composers do not create classical style compositions (like symphonies) anymore. From my experience I can tell that classical style requires much more feelings and energy to create as opposed to song-writing.

I no longer compose such kind of music. It is either loss of inspiration or it is just the DGX which doesn't work for me anymore. Most likely I'll switch to synths. I've been discussing with Squeak what I can expect from the new Yamaha Mo8.

Regards,

George

Hi George,
wasn't sure if maybe your music was a bit of a cross between classical & new age piano? ( luv new age piano)
If it's orchestral instruments you're after, have you considered going software??
especially if you're planning to sequence rather than perform live.
Also depends if you have a computer powerful enough to run them, latency can be a problem.
I've been considering http://www.garritan.com/
only problem is it's designed more for sequencing/recording, not for programs like OMB & BIAB which is what I use.

For BIAB & my midifiles I'm still busy putting together my "ultimate soundfont".
Weeks of work, but most of them were free, so price tag was excellent.
I've probably spent so much time with them, my ears are atuned to the sound, wheras in reality, they may sound like rubbish haahaa.

May need to post a midifile & get a reality check, & get my new psr instead.

Don't know the Yamaha M08. Synths are great
for playing sounds like strings flutes, brass etc but not fantastic for piano. There again you play the DGX beautifully & it's not a weighted keyboard either.

Look forward to hearing your next composition, maybe a symphony next time haa haa.

best wishes

Hi Rikki,

Unforunately, I don't know what 'new age' is. Could you provide me with some composers (or bands), if you have a specific piece of music in particular?

I have my arguments for using hardware synth instead software synth, the most important being that I'd spend the same amount of money on buying a controller and software as that on the Mo8. Actually, I'd get a half-decent car for that money.

Regards,
George

Hi George,
George Winston
is possibly the most famous new age piano soloist I've heard of, http://tinyurl.com/fczyt
I really like his Autum/colors /dance song.

I'm also an Enya fan, particularly luv Watermark & Shephards moon album.
(She's not a piano soloist though)

Considered using dgx as controller. Garriton's I think is about $170 USD roughly.

best wishes
