hey everyone. i was just wondering if there is any way to clear the music finder file. i want to have my songlist there, and i'd rathere not have to keep them in favorites. i do not need all those presets. also, is there anyway to see how much space is left in the user memory? and what does the break button do? and lastly, does anyone know where i can get some good dance/rock/pop beats? thanks so much for your time. zack

Hi Zack,
Which PSR keyboard do you own? Yes, you can delete, edit, or create a new Music Finder file from scratch. If you own the PSR2000 or PSR1000, I recommend you use Fabien's excellent free Windows PC utility program (MusicFinder Editor 2.7) to do this rather than attempting this on the the PSR2000 keyboard itself (as it's painfully SLOW to perform on the keyboard itself). With the Music Finder Editor you can quickly select which songs you want included in the Favorites as well as make customized search fields.

Fabien's Music Finder Editor version 2.7 does requires that you have 'Microsoft Excel' installed on your computer though:

HOpe this helps, - Scott

If your PSR1000 Music Finder features works like the PSR2000 (which I think it does):

Copy the file (xxx.mfd) to a floppy disk (IBM formatted) and then insert the floppy into your PSR1000.

1.select FUNCTION button
2.select "I" (utility)
3.press 'next' until "SYSTEM RESET"
4.press "I" again, for "MUSIC FINDER"
5.press 'next' until "FLOPPY DISK"
6.press ENTER
7.choose:
REPLACE (replaces the current titles with the originals)
or
APPEND ( adds the originals to the current titles)

All of this can easily be reverted back to the factory settings via: System Restore.

Good luck, - Scott

Hello

Scott, I suppose this Music Finder program will work including the User Styles? What about using styles from disks? Will that work? If so I suppose one could even show which disk it was on. Also, it seems to me I read someplace that this Music Finder will store something like 2500 settings. Is that correct?

Thanx

from Scott 2 Scott
The Music Finder can only locate styles in the PSR2000's internal 'preset' & 'user' areas. It unfortunately cannot find styles located on floppy.

Hello

Scott, thanks for your knowledgeable answers.
Then I guess I will continue with what I have started with the style disks: Since there are so many styles to keep track of I am finding, that a song title can really simplify this matter. I am leaving the title or an abbreviated title of the style along with a song title on my favorites disk. This way I can still choose another similar song. As long as I know what kind of song I'm set to go.

hi again. you can always just save those styles to your user memory and then use the MF to point to it there. it makes sense not to allow it to point it to a disk, cause what happens if you dont have that disk in? it gets messed up. but the MF can store 500 settings on the 1000 and i think 600 on the 2000. zack

Hello

Any idea approximately how many user styles can be saved? I think it depends on how much information is stored. Same with how many banks of 8 preset registrations can be stored? Will the number of registation banks used effect how many user styles can be saved?

Hi Zack

BTW I understand about the user styles its just that I've got probably a couple hundred disks right now of styles downloaded off the internet.

The total memory of the 2K is less than a floppy, so it doesn't hold much. I have about a dozen styles, and a few registrations. No songs, because they take a lot of memory. The Music Finder takes very little memory.

hey scott.
don is right. and the 1k has half the memory that the 2k does. so songs are out. but the registrations are i think 8x10. it says in your manual. and you have several HUNDRED disks??? thats nuts. ive been surfing the net for days now and i've got like 20 disks. maybe. you got any good dance/pop/rock stuff? let me know. oh, and i can store about 5 styles in the memory, on my 1k. i also got rid of the music finder database, which saved me about 60k right there, which is another two styles. thanks. zack

Hi Zack

Here are some sites that should give you more than you can use:

Go to the Synthzone homepage and click on Yamaha. Scroll down the list and start with PSR2000 Users site. They have some files you can download tweeked for the 2000 but will work on the 1000. Then click on resources, this will take you to a great bunch of sites for more free downloads.

Another site that will take you around the world getting styles also listed in this Yamaha section of Synthzone is PSR-The Unofficial Homepage.

Here's one that should keep you busy for a while: http://www.spectromagic.com/PSR-Styles-Vault-Archive/

I think any PSR model styles will work on yours. You will find as you go through that all the other brands are listed and they have been converted to work on PSR models. Clavinova by Yamaha is another you will definately want.

Enjoy!

Scott

alright, thanks a ton. i've already seen most of those sites, but i only downloaded a few here and there. i saw clarinova, and its a midi file! so im kinda confused. whatever. but which files are the dance/pop/rock ones? i suppose i could download them all and spend a few hours wading through them, but id rather not. :-) so if you know which ones are good offhand, please let me know. thanks so much. zack

oh, and the 1000 can do anything the 2000 can except for the whole microphone bit and a few details. thanks!

Hi Zack

I'm pretty much into jazz and swing and standards. I'm not really up on the stuff you want. I am going thru all my stuff one at a time and saving it to a master disk according to style. This takes a while but not so bad once you use short cuts. All I have to do is listen to the intro and maybe variations 1 & 4 and I know whether to keep it or throw it.

You could save some time by saving only styles that have a title you think might work instead of downloading the whole disk.
