Hi all, I'm going to purchase a Tyros within a week, and would like to know where the best place is to buy a hard drive so that i can install it. I'm trading in my trusty X1, and think the Tyros is the best choice for the type of music i play. Mostly for the senior crowd. big band, 40's 50's etc. Thanks, Bob

yesterday I received my new Tyros.
I'm very happy with it also because midi-files are enable perhaps 100x faster compared to my PSR-8000.
I'm using a Toshiba MK2023GAS (20Gb)harddisc and it works beyond my imagination.

Hi 82thebar: Congratulations & welcome to the Tyros club. I (as well as many others here) purchased IBM TravelStars hard drives for our Tyros and have not experienced any problems whatsoever. I recommend the 20 gigabyte IBM Travelstar 'model 40GN' (4200 RPM) which cost me $80 seven months ago. There is also a faster (5400 RPM) more expensive 'model 40GNX' version available, but on the Tyros, I'd doubt you'd notice any benefit of the extra cost.
A few months ago, Hitachi 'took over' the IBM Travelstar line, calling it now the Hitachi Travelstar 'model 40GN'. I think this model would be an excellent choice: http://www.hgst.com/hdd/travel/tr40gn.htm

The bottom line though is that the Tyros will accept any generic 'off the shelf' laptop hard drive which meets the following criteria:

2.5 IDE
Height 12.7 mm max
40 GB max

How much does Vince currently charge for a 20 Gb Tyros hard drive?

I had considered buying mine from him as well, but his price at the time (8 months ago) was a lot more expensive (plus the added cost of overseas shipping) than the same equivilent HD (same brand/model) purchased domesticly here in the US costs: approx $80 US dollars.

I realize that Vince's hard drives additionally include a wealth of style & midi files, which may make it well worth the added expense, but I'm curious if his files are 'commerically produced' pro styles & midi files, or style conversions from other arranger kb brands/models, of which are already available (for free) off the internet?
