Do I have to tweak the setting somewhere to make the sustain pedal work?

I have tried to different pedals on my S700, and nothing works.

Thanks

If you mean that the pedal operates in reverse (i.e. sustain is on unless you press the footswitch) then you have a polarity problem. Fix this by turning on the S700 with the sustain pedal connected (but not depressed) and it should detect the correct mode of operation. I don't think it remembers the setting so I think you have have the pedal connected whenever you turn the keyboard on.

If you mean that the pedal has no effect at all then either your pedal, or cable, or the keyboard has a fault. However, can you re-assign the function of the pedal in the S700 menus somewhere (Control settings?) and may this have been changed?

HOLD ON BRAIN FAILURE

It's the NP30 piano that autosenses, isn't it?

So the above comment about "power up with the pedal pugged in" may be garbage!

I'm afraid I can't view the S700 manual on the PC I'm using at present, so I'll have to look when I get home. My PSR3000 has a switch polarity setting somewhere in the settings, I'd expect the S700 to do the same.

What pedal are you using? It won't recognize 3rd party pedals. I went through the same thing and ended up with a Yamaha pedal, which works fine.

Page 195 of the manual discusses sustain pedals settings, including polarity.

Vilo,
The volume input will never work with an on/off switch because it looks for variable messages from 0-128. I have always used any pedal on any Yamaha and they worked - it would surprise me if the new s700 is finiky that way. I have tried 3rd party, Roland, Casio, Korg, and some no names ... all fine. Give it a try after a good night's sleep !

Thanks, I know I do not supposed to use it on the volume input, I was just trying to see if it did anything.

Thanks
Uncle D.
