HI All!
My new PSR 2100 is arriving in a few hours at home and I just can't sit in peace for even a minute. I also have the good fortune to have the PSR 740 with me too. I was to exchange it for the PSR 2100 but then the guy said it was ok if I kept it for a day. This will enable me to write something about the differences in sound and features of both keyboards compared side-by-side and I hope it will be helpful to some future members who would also want to upgrade in the same way. THanx to all on this forum who made deciding on the PSR 2100 for me so much easier.

Congratulations!
At first you may miss some of the things you've grown used to about the 740, such as direct entry of the voice and style numbers. You'll soon find that the new keyboard is far superior in the Operating system, vocal processing, navigation, user memory, and many other aspects.
There are many "tricks" to learning the 2100 and frequent visits to the PSR Tutorial Page: http://psrtutorial.com/
will be a great help.

Sunny,
Have you gotten to sleep yet?

Sunny called me at home this morning
(MY morning ... it was 8PM in India)
and we had a brief conversation about the harmonizer and noise, like Jill has beeen posting about. Sunny said that the EQ reduces the annoyance, and that just solidifies my opinion that the trouble is effects-based. The mic section of the 2100 is way better than average, and as such - you need to have it adjusted correctly for optimal sound quality. Compressors, gates, and EQ can all screw up a mix very easily.

Make sure the kb is initialized to full factory settings, and then tweak it till you get the personal touch that sounds best for you.

It was a great pleasure to hear from a new friend so far away. Thanx for the call, Sunny...and best of luck with your new purchase.

I realy envy anyone who has mastered more than their native language. Sunny's English was better than some people I deal with everyday, here in the states ! Thanx again for the personal call, my friend !

After seeing/reading this again, I may reset and start over again! (now that I have a bit more of a clue on all those menus)!

Thanks for posting this Dave, glad it's just not me!

Jill,
If it helps, I use the factory default on the Mic e.q. settings. To get this, go to the Mic Settings page. Be sure the top line is selected. Then simultaneously press the up and down buttons at the bottom of each row.
As far as effects, I use Hall 3, set at 25.
To set this, press the Direct Access button then the mic dsp button. That will take you to the effects screen. I believe it defaults to Hall 2 Rever. Use whichever you prefer. If you use the Mic Dsp, I would suggest Echo, at about 25. This way you will always have reverb and the Echo can be turned off and on at the Mic DSP button as you wish.
For the overall keyboard e.q., I set up a User settings. I boost the extreme low about 2, Cut 100 about 2, run the mids at zero and boost 8k about 3.
Just something to try. To access the keyboard e.q. page, press Direct Access, then Mixer. From there you can select Edit and experiment.
