If anyone at Yamaha is listening, here is an idea for a feature:

There should be an option for style transitioning. What this means is that when a style is playing and another style is selected, instead of just jumping right to that style "cold" at the start of the next measure, the two styles should crossfade for a selectable period of time. In addition, there should be an option for the tempo to transition over this crossfade period as well.

Anyone else see the value in this feature?

It's a feature that everyone would like of coarse, but that will be not too simple for keyboards companies, especialy for Yamaha, because Roland at least has Style morphing, Korg has double sequencers, but Yamaha is the last one... actualy this might a good idea for yamaha compared to korg and roland...

I'm not a keyboard engineer but I can't imagine that the logistics are truly overwhelming for a company with Yamaha's expertise.

The only transition I would want would be a fill-in that changes the style feel. I think a morphing would be horrible. Try writing a fill in that is not so specific to the first style....maybe that will help you. I can't imagine ever hearing two styles playing together ... even faded.
As for tempo woes .... registrations are the answer to that one.

One adaption to this that shouldn't be too difficult to implement could be velocity-switching on styles. In other words, to go from verse to chorus could be done based on the velocity of the left hand playing: playing hard would switch to the chorus and playing softer would switch back to the verse. This would eliminate some of the button-pushing while playing. Just a thought.

While some people have no problem with it (perhaps a very light touch), I have a horror of features that are triggered by velocity or aftertouch.

How does the keyboard decide between you wanting to 'pop' a note out nice and loud, or playing strongly with eight or ten notes, and thus placing a fair bit of weight on the keyboard, and the intention to trigger the fill or variation change?

I usually feel far happier putting these controls at my feet, where keyboard technique doesn't conflict. Plus, you'll have a far higher choice of actions with a pedal-board, compared to the one action that aftertouch or vel-switch will allow.

Just my 2¢ adjusted for inflation......
