When the owner heard I wasn't playing he asked me to set up in the "other" end of the building from where I normally play, so there will be entertainment on both sides. Leave here at 7:30 for the 9 to 1 job at an upscale retirement comminity, about 250 guests are expected. Then there's a belated NYE job tomorrow afternooon before I manage to get a day off. My better half spent 25 years by herself while I played on NYE. I gave up playing on NYE about 10 years ago. I have not a single regret. I love to perform but I really enjoy bringing in the new year with my wife of almost 35 years and good friends. When I was raising four kids and paying tuition to Christian School I needed the extra cash. Now it is no longer as important as my wife and good friends. You folks still playing knock em dead! Best one I ever played......1hr Comedian act in between, played 3 hrs of dance music.....they dropped the Movie Screen at 11:45 to see the NYC Times Square Ball Drop..... Played from 5-9 and made more in tips than what they paid me, which was already a very reasonable amount. Used my PSR-3000 and a pair of Yamaha MS60s powered monitors...perfect! The extra $$$ will sure come in handy. Fell asleep at 11:30.... Everyone loved the music, the dancefloor was packed for much of the evening, and I'm already booked for the same location next year. Played until 12:45, packed up and got home about 1:30--just in time for the electricity to go out. Lit some candles, hit the sack, the cat woke me up at 8:00 a.m. and now I'm getting ready for this afternoon's job. Finished up at 1:30 and went to an after hours party for Lexington folks in the service industry (musiciansm waiters, bartenders, cooks, etc.)Was held at a local restaurant. Stayed until about 4:00 AM. Nice to relax with people you work with or who you never see because of conflicting work schedules. Russ

In the main room: hundreds of slots programmed with continuous loud beep-beep-beep sound loops all going at a deafening cacaphony. at the same time, recorded music being piped all over the room at about the same volume. at the same time: at one end of the room, a guy at a grand piano, in the middle of the room, a strolling sax player, at the other end, me on arranger keys/vocals. when i turned up so as to drown out the other sounds and hear myself, a 90-yr old woman in a platinum blonde wig who sat at the nearest slot kept complaining to mgmt I was too loud, but she wouldn't give up her "lucky seat" and move away. surely the end of days is near.PLEASE!!! ------------------ Miami Mo _________________________ Miami Mo

But we're cutting a new album starting tomorrow and needed the rest. Did play a short gig New Year's night. Small venue, but in and out in 2 hours and asleep by 23:00. Plus lots of bods to lug stuff, so a restful time.
