Hi again, I was wondering whether it is possible to copy the floppies to the zip drive on the Roland EM2000. The manual does not seem to mention it. I want to do some reorganizing and store all my data on the extra zip disk. Fran, or anyone who might know, please respond...
Thanks a lot
Alex

You can copy things from the floppy to ZIP one by one (load them from the floppy, then save to the ZIP). This is long and time-consuming.

There is, however, a Roland Database Manager program which allows you to import styles and MIDI files from floppies and or ZIPs into the PC-based database manager (and also change names, but not contents), and then re-export them on the ZIP.

This is useful also copy the contents of ZIPs from one disk to another, plus keep a backup on your PC's hard disk.

Alex

Thanks Alex, I think I might have to do it the slow and tedious way since I don't have a zip drive in my computer and I am not pressed for time. Based on what you're saying I do need a zip drive on my PC... If not, please let me know

Alex, Also, doing it the slow way will involve mounting and unmounting the zip between each save command, right? (Now I might reconsider buying an external zip drive...)

Its a year now since I sold my EM2000, but if memory serves me, In the COPY OPTION you can MARK a number of files on floppy to copy in one go to the Zip. I think I used to mark 10 at a time.

You can copy "all" styles or Songs, by selecting all instead of individual marks. If you select via mark for individual songs/styles, select no more than twenty or by default the EM2000 will select all..You do not have to remove the zip when copying from a floppy, it will automatically change..Fran

Alex,

Sorry for misleading you a bit. I am not in front of my keyboard right now, and the way Fran is suggesting will probably be what you want.

A PC ZIP drive used to be a worthwhile investment (I have one), and now you may be able to get one quite cheaply. Now ZIP is passe, and I don't think it will be worth your while to get one, especially since there is a way to do what you want.

Regards,
Alex

Thank You Fran, Alex, Graham. I was able to copy some styles so far from the flopy to the zip. Since I have a myriad of styles, I am wondering whether it is possible to organize them by creating directories based on specific genres. It seems that the em2000 os is set in a way whereby it groups files according to type : styles, snglists,midisets,etc...
Do you know of any way to introduce structure into the "housekeeping" that I started attempting?
I have my EM2000 for almost 1.5 years now and it's such a shame I am just beginning to explore the zip drive... I can imagine what I've been missing and I'm looking forward to no more floppies lying around...
Thanks again guys, your directions were very helpful.

"Now ZIP is passe "
That zip diskette I just opened looked so fresh, Although I bought it at least a year ago, it was still in it's original wrapper :-) I am trying to catch up to the year 2000 technology. That's not the part I am worried about though - my playing skills have to improve dramatically in order to take full advantage of the keyboard.
