Vince the music man posted on the style forum and gave me permission to pass on to SZ his S900 impressions......

Hi all,
ViHi Music Friends,
Just spent a little time on my new PSR S900 which I bought yesterday and in my opinion the keyboard is fantastic, the PSR 3000 is a great little keyboard, I have had four of them but this S900 is something different, the only downside on the S900 for me is that there is no Smart Card like there is on the PSR3000.

This new keyboard is the Mini Tyros2 except for a few things like the internal Hard Drive and After Touch but with it's onboard speaker system which is crystal clear and Sax on the top end of the keyboard sounding better than my Tyros2 (in my opinion) this keyboard is a winner.

I do like the Pre-set styles which like the Tyros2 gives you a read out of the tempo of the style, naming your files is a big improvement from the PSR3000, the background is white and as soon as you select a letter or number you get a red square and the letter will appear white and then change to black

The key action is better than the PSR3000, for me not as good as Tyros2 or the 9000Pro but more like the PSR 8000 and 9000.

It has one feature that the Tyros2 hasn't got (which is not important) it has a button in User page of the Utility to see what Version is on the keyboard, by pressing the 7 or 8 button below the screen you can see what version the keyboard is, mine is Program Version 1.02.

Sorry to compare this keyboard with the PSR 3000 but another improvement is the LCD Contrast Control which is on the black panel surrounding the screen, which is on the back of the 3000.

The S900 will play most of the styles and voices from the Tyros2 including the S. Art, Sweet, Live, Mega Voices and Trumpet Fall, Trumpet Shake also the intake of breath sound, it has a problem playing the TheatreFoxtrot, TheatreMarch and TheatreQuickstep and won't play the Theatre voices which have been sampled for the Tyros2.

My collection of keyboards to date is -:
Two PSR 8000's (one for gigging and one as a backup)
One PSR 9000
One 9000Pro
One Tyros2
One PSR S900.

Paul who has a music shop in Wrexham and stocks the full range of Yamaha keyboards etc. and he is prepared to do the Yamaha PSR S900 at a special price to our groups to customers in the UK only, for £950.00 plus postage of £15.00 and the PSR S700 for £695.00 plus £15.00 postage.

His name is -:

Thanks for the post, but doesn't sound too different vs the 3K?

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the review and all my dreams about S-900 became true as i requested Yamaha many times for having Tyros-2 sounds in PSR-3000 replacement keyboard. Now i'm very happy to hear that S-900 has got same sounds of Tyros-2.
I wan't to ask you few things about s-900.
How is the strings section?Have you noticed any improvement in strings voices?and how strings voices sound when compared to Tyros-2 and psr-3000 keyboard?

Thanks,
SUNNY.

SUNNY,
I do not have the S900 yet so I can not answer your questions.
I only posted what someone else (Vince) had said on a different forum.

Sunny,
Here is the link. You have to register to post, but you can read all you like. I've been a member since it started. http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/yamaha-psr-styles/messages
DonM

P.S. Looks like somebody spammed up the last page, so you'll have to page back to "older".

Don,
actually that is not the correct link.
It was not the psr styles group. Many had left due to spam and Brian Miles started a new group. Joining was through invitation only, to keep spammers out hopefully.

Sunny,
I am sorry but that is a private group. I am not able to provide you a link.
I can ask Vince if I can give you his e-mail
That's about all I can do. Sorry.
Jim
