Hi Folks,
Anyone start composing a tune and after about the 5th time you start saying to yourself.."I've heard something like that before?" And now you got to chuck the song cause it sounds like something that been done before... Anyone ran into that brick wall???

What you are saying is true for me in my folk genre of work, not so much for my jazz though. So especially when I am about to work on a vocal cd, I keep away from listening to any other artists vocal pieces to avoid the influence.

Seriously though my problem is stopping my songs sounding like each other! I once wrote a song only to find I could sing an earlier song I wrote to the same tune. baaaad I much preger writing the words than the music.

Must learn some new minor chords

Especially in vocal stuff.. And you're right Tony I could write lyrics on bathroom tissue and have 3 or 4 songs before flushing... It's the music that gets me... And what sucks is you can have words turning in your mind while trying to deny this sounds familiar..

A while back, Fleetwood Mac came out with a "new" number. I can't recall the name of the song, but when you hear it, you'll think of Paul Simon's "Kodachrome". A steal if I ever heard one.
