Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad........

There is something so utterly wrong with the concept of American Idol, and 'reality' shows in general, and we all talk around the cooler about the utterly contrived drivel disguised as a 'contest'.

The sad truth is, although many people will try to tell you why they watch it is for the next superstar, the REAL reason they are watching is for the humiliation of the poorer singers...... despite being mercilessly picked by the show's executives PRECISELY because they ARE so bad, and so gullible.

Now there is something fundamentally wrong with a society that gains enjoyment from watching (and even, with AI, of participating in) the humiliation and punishment of the innocent.

Take a look at the fate of other societies that had that little empathy..... The Romans and their circuses, little more than a gorier version of Survivor, the Germans of the 20s and 30s, with their 'schadenfreude', and the resultant rise (or at least concurrent rise) of Fascism.....

The fate of a society that derives pleasure from other's pain is decline and violence. Plenty of evidence for that, isn't there?

I can only hope, one day, that an 'American Arranger' program becomes popular. Then we will find out for ourselves what it is like to take the weakest, poorest players, build up their egos with false hope, and let Simon et al rip them to shreds in the name of 'entertainment'.

It is unbelievable that the same posters here, who rush to defend a poster who gets a cruel review of a demo, are the very ones that revel in American Idol.

I guess it's only funny if it happens to someone you don't know.......

Gary Malissa sung the heck out of that Funny Valentine .....girls got it made this year ....only drum boy will last a bit for the boys .....great show 3 nites a week glad I got TIVO.
